Avani Hotel Dubai Ibn Battuta
666.60 AED
Flyctory.com Pros
- Great location next to Metro and Ibn Battuta Mall
- Friendly room layout
- Nice pool area
Flyctory.com Cons
- Terrible breakfast performance
- Weak organization and hospitality
For our October 2021 visit of the Expo 2020 in Dubai, my wife and I stayed at the Avani Hotel Ibn Battuta Mall during the days we spent at the World Exposition. Especially the great traffic connection finally made us feel that the place is a great selection for this part of the vacation. This review tells you whether the Avani met our expectations.

Avani Ibn Battuta – Location & Transport
The Avani Ibn Battuta Dubai Hotel is located right in front of the Ibn Battuta Mall, one of my favorite places to go shopping in Dubai. It is located right at the E11 Sheikh Zayed Road. Even though I do have a GPS with periodic updates, it did not really find the best connection to the hotel. Public transport at the Avani is ideal: the Ibn Battuta metro station is located right across the road and also features a large bus terminal for domestic and local buses. The hotel runs an own parking garage, parking is free. Self-parking is possible, but the state of the parking garage was not fully inviting, see pictures below.
The shopping mall and some mall stops at the metro station give you a large range of options for shopping and dining. If you cross the road to the metro station by the bridge / overpass, you also walk along a minor food court with some options. The mall also features leisure facilities like a cinema.

Avani Ibn Battuta – The Room
We had a three night stay from Sunday to Wednesday in early November 2021 in the hotel. The rate was 1999.96 AED, roughly 480 Euro. The price included the Superior Room, breakfast and a one day cancellation period. We were named to receive an upgrade to Executive, which I cannot fully reconcile. The room had a quite friendly design, but was a bit of more compact than I expected. I appreciated the large work desk and the nice fridge to store your drinks. Two bottles of water have been provided and were refilled. The room had universal power sockets.

The sink of the bathroom was in the room, there were only doors for the shower and the toilet. There were very nice amenities, but we struggled with the house keeping (see below). This are felt really narrow to us. A bit of strange that the luggage rack is located right next to the shower due to the lack of space. In addition, we struggled to find hangers for the towels.

Avani Ibn Battuta – Breakfast
The hotel offered self-service buffet breafkast during our stay. The area next to the pool was nice – but unfortunately, any day ended up in chaos. One day, the registration was not working, there were queues for coffee (serviced) and juice on several days. Providing fresh tableware and cleaning tables was chaotic and once they provided (maybe six to eight) fresh new omelettes, the staff did not even make to put them into the warming boxes, as people approached him like predators who haven’t eaten for weeks. If available, the selection of items was reasonable with an at most modest quality – but most of the time, the staff did not make it to refill in time. I have to clearly state that we even went for earlier breakfast after we did not enjoy Day 1 breakfast at all – but this did not change the situation too significantly.

The breakfast area is used as a restaurant as well. We wanted to try the place at one of our evenings – but as the QR codes on the table for the menu did not work out in the morning hours, we went for other options.
Avani Ibn Battuta – Services
Check-in was a mess. First of all, it was a bit of weird as the staff in front of the hotel first ignored us at arrival and then complained about our parking – I was expecting to keep our rental car in front of the hotel for a second and then go up to the parking garage. The reception staff felt confused as well and just gave us limited service and information about our stay (e.g. breakfast times). Check-out was slightly better, but overall, the interaction with the hotel staff was a mess. Furthermore, house keeping was not good during our stay. They did not replace used amenities (therefor, we had some used one of the guests before us) and they took some of the used towels – without replacing them with new ones.
Nice Sports Facilities
The pool of the Avani Hotel is actually really nice. However, the hotel is using the facility also for pool parties. Despite that our room was on the 19th floor and the pool 16 floors below, we could hardly sleep during these times.

The hotel also drives a really nice gym next to the restaurant.

Avani Ibn Battuta – My View
The hotel has a great location, the room is nice with a strange layout – but finally, the services were chaotic and there were issues in multiple disciplines of hotel hospitality. So sad, as this one could be a great place for shoppers and to explore Southern Dubai. The poor organisation finally takes any chance for a really good rating. There are some other options around if you would like to stay in the area.
