During the amazing UEFA Conference League campaign of KI Klaksvik in the 2023/24 season, I already introduced you to the beautiful Torsvollur. The national soccer stadium of the Faroe Islands, located in the capital Torshavn, is home for all major international matches. In September 2024, I came back to the city for sports. This time, I had my first ever Faroese Football / Soccer National Team match. On 7th September 2024, they hosted Northern Macedonia in the UEFA Nations League. Not only due to my debut, it was a special match for me. I was also able to visit the business seat / hospitality area of the stadium for the very first time. Time to share some impressions with you.

Torsvollur – Location & Access

The national stadium Torsvollur (local spelling Tórsvøllur) is located in the North of Torshavn. There are multiple other sports arenas in the area, including the Ovari Vollur, which is the home ground of local teams B36 and HB). HB had a women soccer play-off match before the national team match. During the national team match hosted by the national federation FSF, there were two merchandise shops. FSF themselves drive a small shop in the Southern corner of the stadium, while the fan group Skansin sold their merchandise right in front of that.

There are numerous parking lots around the stadium. None of them is especially large, though.  Thus, public transport is a good option. Bus 4 to Tórsvøllur is closest to the hospitality stand, which is the one in the South-West. However, it may be more sensible to go for the stops R.C. Effersoes gota or Uppi a Halsi, which are served by significantly more bus lines. Walking distance to Old Town Tinganes is less than 2 kilometers / 25 minutes.

Torsvollur (Faroe Islands National Team) – Ticket Situation

After I loved the 10,000 people from Faroe Islands visiting the Handball Euro 2023 matches in Berlin, I was quite surprised that the home soccer match did not feel that attractive to the locals. The official attendance was just given in Faroese, but as far as I understood, the total attendance was less than 2,500. Compared to the total capactiy of the stadium of 6,500, the ticket situation was rather easy. However, I had the impression that there were less than 4,000 tickets on sale when I scanned the ticket platform.

My ticket for the match was 650 DKK, roughly 87 Euro. A ticket with a similar view on the opposite side (where I sat during the KI Klaksvik match) would have been 250 DKK roughly, i.e. the hospitality service was roughly an upcharge of 400 DKK / 50 EUR. Tickets of all kinds were still available on matchday.

Torsvollur (Faroe Islands National Team) – Hospitality Seats

There are two hospitality areas at Torsvollur. The one on the Southern side of the Southwest main grandstand are not sold to the public and are “real” hospitality by the FSF for guests, sponsors, sponsors of the away team etc. The one on the Northern part of that stand were on public sale. I got to the online platform rather early and chose an FSF Gestir ticket right next to the bench of the away team. I was too German (i.e. rather early) for the match. When I arrived some 75 minutes before the match, I was the first one in the rather neutral, but very nicely designed public sale hospitality area. The area is quite spacious and almost features the whole side along one half of the pitch. The key buffet was more or less in the center of the room. Before the match, it featured bread, cheese and cold cuts, some pickles and dips as well as sushi. The served small hamburgers in the intermission. Another buffet featured coffee and a dessert. Sodas were available from a fridge, while beer was served by the staff.

My seat was in the first row, as close as it could get to center line. This also meant that I was next to the away team’s bench. This also meant that I here and there had a bit of obstructed view by the North Macedonian team. The impact was rather minimal, though. Most of the times, the view was excellent The seats are comfy and had a nice pitch and width, separated from the ground just by a small fence. As the stands at Torsvollur are generally very close to the pitch, the experience was amazing. All the pictures have just been taken with my point-and-shoot camera.

Torsvollur (Faroe Islands National Team) – Hospitality Area Services

Security at Torsvollur is very relaxed. The away team block was finally open for sale for everyone, as the guests just came with a handful of supporters. The staff in the hospitality area was very attentive and friendly. As everywhere in the Faroe Islands, you easily get around with speaking English. The Faroese people are very friendly. Unfortunately, most of the people I know from Faroese soccer a bit were likely in the “other” lounge. The hospotaity area also features own toilets – I would have loved to have that level of cleanliness in many previous stadium experiences I had before.

Torsvollur (Faroe Islands National Team) – Atmosphere

Due to the rather limited attendance, the atmosphere was unfortunately limited. Only the Skansin group is supporting their team throughout the match.

Torsvollur (Faroe Islands National Team) – My View

I really loved the hospitality by the Faroese National Soccer / Football Federation. The service is definitely worth the upcharge. The food was lovely and watching the match was just much more relaxed. I also enjoyed the unique view I could explore during the match. Only the atmosphere at Torsvollur is a bit of limited. It would be interesting to see how this is changing in case the team is having a bit of a better streak – and more attractive opponents, like the handball team is currently showing.
