I had a quite weird situation staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli. I booked the hotel as Hotel Innsbruck Tivoli, the name it used to operate under beforehand. Right before I had three nights in the hotel in fall 2024, they transformed to a Hilton Garden Inn. Here is my review of the hotel, which comes with a very iconic architecture by Zaha Hadid.
Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli – Location
The Hilton Group hotel is located in the Tivoli area, where multiple former Olympic venues are located. The Olympiahalle is just across the road. The hotel is located not too far from Innsbruck main station, the walk there is unfortunately rather bothering. The area does not feature too many services around. There are two Billa discount grocery stores in rather short walking distance. I really missed some restaurants in the nearby areas – especially as the hotel bar and restaurant was closed entirely during my visit.
Located directly at the major Olympiastraße, the hotel is nicely located if you travel in by car. The hotel is driving a parking garage (20 EUR / night). There are two bus stops close to the hotel. The city-bound stop of Olympiaworld is almost in front of the hotel and served by multiple bus lines. However, the schedule is a bit unfortunate – two buses to the main station follow each other rather closely, followed by a major gap. North of the hotel is the Pacherstrasse stop, which is having the better connection to city center. Even though this might sound quite well-connected, I also opted for scattered taxi transfers during my stay.
Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli – Room
I had three nights in the Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli. For the stay in late October / early November 2024, I booked a King Corner Deluxe Room, which is coming with a separate living room. The total rate, including all taxes, was 409.75 EUR. The room was really nice and felt very spacious and comfortable. The wood-dominated design felt like a good match to the Innsbruck area. However, I was missing the sofa bed stated in the room description. Furthermore, I hated that the room had no full privacy. You could neither lock the door (just close it) or block it, e.g. by an additional chain. As the hotel also did not provide the typical Do not disturb door hangers, there was quite a slight touch of feeling uncomfortable. The work desk had two power outlets, one taken by the coffee maker.
The bedroom was absolutely nice as well. I did not provide a picture, but it came with additional TV and power outlets next to the king bed. The bathroom looked nice as well. Like the whole corner room, the room was clean and did not have any visible marks of usage (not too unexpected, as I visited right after renovation. Amenities were provided in dispensers. However, soap and body lotion was only provided on the right of the two sinks. The toilet and the make-up mirror, however, were at the left hand side, where you had holders for additional dispensers, but these were not in use. Especially after using the toilet, I felt that being bothering and unnecessary.
Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli – Breakfast
Breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli is served at the breakfast restaurant. This one being located on the eleventh floor, it came with lovely views of Innsbruck. Starting the day with mountain view was definitely inspiring. I felt that if the hotel is fully booked, the room might be rather small, though. The buffet was nice and had a nice range of items. However, some of them differed from day to day, especially on the fruit side. Vegetarian / vegan options are provided as well, while the warm dishes were a bit limited. One thing which really bothered me was that you could not place a cup under the hot water outlet of the coffee machine when you wanted to drink tea. This might be even dangerous.
The downside of the breakfast, however, was the staff. Especially during the first two days of my visit, the experience was not good. The two ladies used a couple of opportunities to rather have a cigarette break together on the lovely adjacent terrace (see below). This meant that for a couple of minutes, there was no service in the breakfast room. Some items were just very slowly refilled. The third morning experience was significantly better, though – also because was more staff around.
Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli – Terrace
One feature of the hotel, which leads to a unique experience, is the terrace next to the breakfast room. It spans over two floors, the eleventh and the twelfth one. The view over the city and the mountains is amazing. You also have a great view of the Bergisel ski jumping hill from there.
Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli – Service
Apart from the poor breakfast experience, the staff was nice. I was not welcomed at all as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, though. Thus I was a bit nervous whether they would charge me for breakfast, but I didn’t. They also felt to have set up my key card incorrectly, just for two nights instead of three. Unfortunately, I ran into the preparations for an incoming bus load of US-American tourists. I had to wait for over five minutes, as the receptionist was doing some other stuff. The check-out experience was very nice, though. The staff felt to be very interested in feedback. I told them about the room door locking issue, for example.
The Hilton Group hotel offers free WiFi. While it sometimes performed very well, there were some very bumpy and unreliable experiences as well. They majorly occurred when I was working in night hours and are thus unlikely due to traffic load produced by other hotel guests. I had to switch to my private mobile network a few times. On the top floor, there is a gym and sauna. The gym felt a bit limited, but offers some really nice views over the Austrian city. The sauna felt very nice, I am not sure about the operation times, though (I did not get any information).
Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck Tivoli – My View
You have to give in that I visited the hotel right after transforming into a Hilton Garden Inn. Thus, I would tolerate some minor issues definitely. Things like a missing Do not disturb hanger, the clearly not to motivated breakfast staff or WiFi issues just should not happen, though. Especially when Innsbruck is hosting the Women Handball European Championships in November / December 2024 next door, these issues need to be solved to avoid more critical situations.
