Before visiting the Av-Con 2026 in Atlanta, I had a short trip back in aviation history. The Beechcraft Heritage Museum was almost en route between Nashville and the city in Georgia, so that we just had to have a stop there. Here is my review of the aviation museum.

Beechcraft Heritage Museum – Location & Admission

The museum is located in Tullahoma in Tennessee, right at the Southern edge of Tullahoma Regional Airport (THA). The aerodrome is located slightly Southern on the airport premises. The area around the museum is rather rural, there are no services in the area right around the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. Tullahoma itself, which is located Southwest of the airport and the museum, offers all kinds of stores and restaurants for the traveler. As the location is rather remote, you need a car to get there. There is sufficient free parking in the beautiful park-alike area.

Admission to the museum is 15 USD. You can visit it from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 to 16:00.

Beechcraft Heritage Museum – The Visit

While you arrive at the Beech Center, which is something like the reception area of the museum, the exhibitions of the Beechcraft Heritage Museum span over three different spaces / hangars. The key focus is obviously on the airplane exhibits, but there are numerous other exhibits. There are signs at all planes giving technical data and historic background in English. Major signs tell historic background about Beechcraft, important people and airlines linked to their operations. The Beech Aircraft Corporation has been founded by Walter Beech in Wichita, Kansas, in 1932. The museum itself has been founded in 1973 as the Staggerwing Museum. The unique double-wing design in which the two wings are slightly staggered one above the other are also part of the Walter Beech Hangar, which we visited first. The exhibit also holds the first Staggerwing model and the first plane by Travel Air, another company driven by Walter Beech.

An office replica in the corner of the hangar also tells a lot about Travel Air and other aviation history linked to the Beechcraft company. This part holds a lot of pictures and aviation memorabilia, which is very interesting and educative.

Cianchette Hangar

Crossing the reception hall, you reach the Cianchette Hangar. On the way you pass a couple of historic aviation pictures. In general, you are clearly told that you neither allowed to climb, enter or touch the aircraft. However, this hangar holds a C-45 cockpit, which allows you to step in and have some pictures in. The key exhibit there is one of only three remaining civilian Beech 18 aircrafts. There is also a Beech 18 freight exhibit. I also loved the other exhibits there. In general, the condition of the vast majority of planes in the museum is impressing. Though this might suggest they are still ready to fly, the vast majority in fact is not. When you head back to Beech Center, you pass two additional plane exhibits.

Bost Hangar

In order to reach Bost Hangar, you have to leave the main building of the museum and take a brief pathway. In regards of the number of planes, this is the richest of all three spaces. Generally, the hangar holds the more modern types of Beechcraft planes. However, there are some really nice historic planes, like the Round The World Bonanzas or the Starship with the rear-facing propellers. A very interesting exhibits is also the wooden frame of a Staggerwing, which is a great illustration about the structure of the historic planes. The hangar also features wind tunnel models and a selection of engines.

Beechcraft Heritage Museum – Services

The staff in the museum was really friendly. I had some really nice discussions with them. The atmosphere is amazing, inside and outside the museum. There are also educational rooms and nice places to hang out. You will find opportunities to sit down as well as bathrooms in or around all three hangars. The museum also drives a gift shop at the Beech Center, which offers some really nice items.

Beechcraft Heritage Museum – My View

The Beechcraft Heritage Museum is a lovely aviation museum. Even Sarah had fun there. The exhibits are in an excellent state and come with a lot of useful information. The scenery is beautiful and the design in the museum is great. It is a bit apart from major attractions, but definitely worth the visit. I absolutely recommend visiting it.
