While my wife and I visited Yokohama in Japan, we also explored the Yokohama Air Cabin. The gondola lift eases the transport from the key railway hub to some touristic spots. Here is the review of our ride.

Yokohama Air Cabin – Location and Tariff

The Yokohama Air Cabin is a 629 meter long gondola lift (some sort of cable car) in Yokohama. At a ride time of five minutes, it connects two stations. Sakuragi-Cho is located right in front of the Japanese Rail Station with the same name. From the Northeast end station, Unga Park, you reach a shopping mall, the Cup Noodles Museum and the amusement park Cosmo World. The latter includes the famous Ferris wheel Cosmo Clock 21. Yokohama Air Cabin is comparably touristic. You could also walk the route crossing a promenade over the bay. However, it avoids crossing a major street as a pedestrian (traffic lights are installed, though).

The gondola lift operates daily from 10:00 to 21:00. An adult one way ticket is 1,000 JPY, roughly 6,20 EUR. The return is 1,800 JPY. The return can be taken throughout the entire calendar day. A key reason people take the ride, apart from touristic reason, is that there is a combined ticket with Cosmo Clock 21. The single/return ticket price of 1,700 / 2,500 JPY is 300 JPY cheaper than buying the tickets separately. These combined tickets are not sold in the amusement park.

Yokohama Air Cabin – The Cable Car & The Ride

The cable car has been opened in 2021. It was built by Nippon Cable. The highest elevation is 40 meters above the ground. The cable cars are accessible. You should allow for limited lines to board a gondola. Yokohama Air Cabin does not mix parties into one gondola, which should be able to transport four people at one. The travel time is roughly five minutes. Practically all signs are in English as well, so that it is very easy to get around.

Views from Yokohama Air Cabin

The ride takes you over a bay not too far away from Yokohama Harbor. Especially into Northern direction, high commercial buildings block the view a bit. However, you can see the Ferris wheel almost the entire ride. The canal alike water structure in that district are very catching as well. Unfortunately, as you can see on the pictures, the glass fronts of the air conditioned gondolas reflect the light quite significantly. This hardens taking pictures significantly.

On our way back towards the station, the sun was already about to set. Thus, the light conditions were a bit better and gave some nice additional views. The cabins are illuminated in the dark, which might even worsen the potential of taking pictures.

Yokohama Air Cabin – My View

The technical features of Yokohama Air Cabin are quite nice and it is an enjoyable ride. Finally, you need to decide on your own if you feel like taking this ride – or going for the walking route instead. As it was rather warm during our visit in Japan, I really liked this relaxing and refreshing ride.
