All you need is love – even if you don’t agree to the Beatles’ lyrics, you might agree that love is a key part of our social life. Dubrovnik is indeed a beautiful – and romantic – city, so that having a Love Stories Museum there almost feels to be logical thing. Nonetheless, I felt that I just have to share this unique place with you. Enjoy my posting from Croatia.

Love Stories Museum – Location & Admission

The museum is located right West of the Old Town Walls of Dubrovnik. Thus, it was also in very close walking distance to the hotel we stayed in, the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik. The area also features a major bus station in the same area. Unfortunately, I could not find an extensive list of bus line connecting from there.

We visited the museum in Off Season (the website does not clearly define it, but we were there on Easter 2023), when the opening times were 10:00 to 18:00. In summer (the Season), they do not close before 21:00. Adult admission is 9 EUR. You can buy them online beforehand, but there is no discount on them. The museum took credit card charges during our visit, which happened a few times to us in the country.

Love Stories Museum – The Visit

The museum is located in a typical residential house. It spans over all floors of the building. On ground floor, where you enter, you visit a room featuring romantic history and myths about Old Dubrovnik. Like the whole museum, the documentation is given in Croatian and English. It is a good introduction to get into the story of the museum, but also gives you some spots in Dubrovnik you will a closer look to when visiting the city.

A very interesting feature of the museum is one floor above, where you find a small exhibition on love stories in movies filmed in the Pearl of the Adria. Namely, there are exhibits about Robin HoodGame of Thrones and some Star Wars episodes. Another exhibition deals with romantic museum, from Beethoven to modern artists.

Love Stories… of the Visitors and Fans

A very neat part of your visit is the Global Collection. It features items donated by the visitors and by fans of the museum, presented together with love stories related to it. I felt that this part was really entertaining and surprising. Maybe there is also some sort of voyeurism which makes it enjoyable to read through the very personal experiences.

Finally, the top of the building where you can leave your very own love messages. If you really want to read through all of them, better approach the museum in the early morning – there are thousands of them being fixed to the ceiling. Of course, you should add your own one as well. There is also a small section with visitor pictures.

Love Stories Museum – Services

The host (and manager) of the museum was very kind. There is a small gift shop.

Love Stories Museum – My View

The topic is nice, the location is good and the manager is a nice guy. These three things are already key factors why the Love Stories Museum is an enjoyable place. However, it is also a rather small place. But… it warms your heart – and how could that be a really bad thing?
