Flyctory.com Pros

  • Very straight and truthful stories
  • Good country and country rock blending

In My Blood is my first coverage of a Cody Jinks album. So far, I featured the US American artist in my Country Music Picks and as a guest musician in other albums. For example, he joined Mark Morton in his April 2025 album Without The PainIn My Blood has been released on 25th April 2025.

Cody Jinks – About The Artist

Meredith Cody Jinks was born on 18th August 1980 in Haltom City in Texas. The country and Southern rock artist did start his career as the singer as a thrash metal band, though. In 2006 (Collector’s Item) and 2008 (Cast No Stones), Jinks released his first albums. With his seventh album I’m Not The Devil (2016), he had his breakthrough and made it to the Top 5 for the US Country Album Charts. In My Blood is the thirteenth studio album by him.

Cody Jinks – In My Blood – Track by Track

The eleven song album lasts 47 minutes.

1. Better Than the Bottle

The howling pedal steel is welcoming the listener to Cody Jinks’ new album. The single release Better Than the Bottle is a calm, comparably traditional country listen. This setting leads to a nice focus on Cody’s voice.

2. Lost Highway

The energetic and rhythmic level slightly increases for Lost Highway. Especially the chorus of this song stays in your mind. It feels like a perfect fit to the dark, warm voice of the artist.

It takes you up, it takes you down
The road don’t end, it just goes around
Makes you laugh, it makes you cry
It makes you live and die
What I have lost to what I have gained
Is all to none, it’s still the same
I will drive until I find, until I find
That lost highway

3. The Others

The third song of In My BloodThe Others, is another song released as a single already. Parts of melody reminds me of Chris Rea’s 1989 classic, The Road to Hell. The setting is more country-ish, though. Cody Jinks nicely leverages the country vibes and typical instrumental elements with a blues-alike groove in here. This leads to a really cool listen.

4. In My Blood (feat. Blackberry Smoke)

For the slow title track, Cody Jinks is joined by Blackberry Smoke. Especially Charlie Starr’s voice is present in this very personal write, which leads to a very nice blending. I really like this track, which also increases energy during its runtime.

It’s in my blood
It’s in my bones
It’s in every single word
To every single song I’ve been singin’
It ain’t me
To be cut out and sold
Man, why can’t you see?
It’s in my blood

5. Something Wicked This Way Comes

You can already tell by the duration of the album that the songs on this album are longer than the typical Nashville mainstream songs. Something Wicke This Way Comes, however, is the only song in here, which exceeds the five minute mark. The song is a calm and narrative track, which is a treat for fans of good storytelling. The chorus stays in your mind as well.

6. See the Man

See the man run from his problems
See the man face down in a bottle
See the man realize ol’ ghost ride along
But you can’t drive
When you’re too damn stoned

The sixth track beautifully describes people running away from their own problems. The song is a lovely blending of country and rock. The heartbeat of the song are the true and honest lyrics, though. A great listen, indeed.

7. When You Can’t Remember

And all of these beautiful memories I cherish is my way of saying, “Dad, I love you” – these are maybe the core lines of the seventh song of the album. The song tells you to focus on the things which are really important in life. No, they don’t make heroes like they used to when you can’t remember – the song also names things you might focus on less. And it does so in a striking Cody Jinks style.

8. Lonely Man

The general mood of In My Blood is very thoughtful, a bit of melancholic. But it is also very personal and intimate, reflecting. Lonely Man condenses all that into a just less than four minute song. I got drunk in ’99 and I just sobered up last year – Cody Jinks feels brutally honest in here and you just have to listen. Love it.

9. Monster

Monsters are real, but they don’t live under our beds
It ain’t no fairytale when they rear their ugly heads
Mirrors don’t lie, I hope I don’t see any soon
Don’t need remindin’ I’m the only one in the room

The honest and straight storytelling of the album continues with Monster. The melodic setting of the song, which also features some nice country rock elements, might make the song feel easier than its predecessor. The song is energetic and determined, like in If he needs my soul to feed, then I’ll starve him to death. The album does contain hard stuff, but Cody Jinks turns that into fascinating listens.

10. Found

Based on Spotify streams, Found has been the most successful single of the In My Blood campaign. The song is a catching country rocker. Nonetheless, it is in line with the storytelling style of the album. A really nice and catching listen.

11. When Time Didn’t Fly

For the closing song When Time Didn’t Fly, Cody Junks does not go for a loud setting. The acoustic guitar is strumming its chords from the very beginning. Later, other instruments are joining gently. Almost reverently, the focus is on Cody Jinks, his voice, his story. Just as this album deserves.

Cody Jinks – In My Blood – My View

What an impressing new one by Cody Jinks! In My Blood is an absolute treat if you like straight and honest songs with a message. There is no country party track in here, Cody is focusing on the messages which really matter. And that leads to a great album, which might pop up in my Albums of the Year posts later this year.

Favorite Song: Monster
