In recent times, I ran into a couple of young and emerging artists from Saarbrücken and the German Saarland state. Scanning the new album releases as of 9th May 2025, I enjoyed listening to another artist from the area. Colletti, who released her debut album that day. Here is my review of Anything That Burns.

Colletti – About The Artist

Colletti is the artist name of Jennifer Collett. The Saarbrücken based artist started writing song at the age of 16 years already, but then went for a more than ten year old hiatus. In 2022, she released the EP Searching For Former Solace. Since then, she only released individual songs.

Colletti – Anything That Burns – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 41 minutes

1. The Mountain And The Cave

A calm guitar melody is opening Colletti’s debut album. The very high voice of the artist adds a very characteristic, special touch. The Mountain And The Cave is a very narrative and personal listen right at the beginning. Feels promising.

2. Italy

The Saarbrücken artist’s trip to Italy has a bit more of a country music touch. Her voice is special – I personally like it, but it is one of these “love it or hate it” elements. I feel it is a nice fit to the song and her narrative style. Overall, the second track of the album feels a bit more present.

3. Sarah

Sarah starts with the guitar only. Later, however, there are also piano elements in the song. The song has a nice presence and feels better balanced between the vocal and instrumental side. Overall, a nice singer-songwriter track. I would like to some more dynamic, more surprising elements in it, though.

4. Wild At Heart

Slowly, Anything That Burns increases its energy and presence. The vocals have a nice range at Wild At Heart, which overall spreads a nice, warm touch during the listen. Nice one.

5. Raw Deal

It is hard to understand that Colletti did a longer hiatus from music when you listen to songs like Raw Deal. It comes with a beautiful narrative and even has a nice dramatic plot. This leads to a very interesting, versatile listen. Very nice song.

6. Prove Me A Fool

The single release Prove Me A Fool is the first song on the record, which also comes with a stronger pop touch. The beat is present, the arrangement feels wider and very pleasing. One of the core tracks of Anything That Burns, indeed.

7. Cabin In The Woods

Beautiful singer-songwriter skills in the country and folk music range – that’s Cabin In The Woods. Some backing instrument additions lead to a lovely, dreaming atmosphere and one of the finest songs on the album.

8. Anything That Burns

The eighth song is the title track of Coletti’s debut album. Again, the song is a nice balance between dreaming elements and folk singer-songwriter melodies. Even though Anything That Burns does have a nice plot with an energetic finale

9. Hey Cousin (ft. Hafenperlen)

For the penultimate song, Colletti invited very special guest musicians. The all-female shanty choir Hafenperlen back the German artist. This vocal boost leads to a very fine song and arrangement. Great work!

10. Bleed Myself Dry

Most of the songs on Anything That Burns are in the range of four minutes. Only Hey Cousin, which is about three minutes long, is significantly shorter. The final track Bleed Myself Dry takes way more time. Colletti recorded a 6:27 minute track here. The key questions about this kind of epic listens is obviously: do you get tired of listening to it? I’d definitely say no. The song comes with some really nice elements, which lead to a lovely ending of the record.

Colletti – Anything That Burns – My View

The first few songs made me struggle, whether my initial thoughts about Anything That Burns, based on listening to a few snippets, are right. Especially the second half of Colletti’s debut album shows some very nice elements and a wider range of songs. I absolutely appreciate and overall had a good time with the album.

Favorite Song: Hey Cousin
