Flyctory.com Pros

  • Beautiful indie-pop singer songwriter album
  • Very intimate and relatable songs

I love Marleen Lohse as an actress and follow her since her early entertainment years. The more I was really curious when she started to release songs earlier this year. Finally, the German artist is releasing her debut album Wide Awake on 24th October 2025. Here is my review.

Marleen Lohse – About The Artist

Marleen Lohse was born on 28th February 1984 in Soltau in Northern Germany. She is the daughter of two hairdressers and originally felt promising in artistic gymnastics. However, she became hugely popular at the age of 14 already when she took the role of Julia Clement or Hexe (“Witch”, due to her red hair) in the children TV series Die Kinder vom Alstertal. She played that role until the age of 20. She more and more grew as an actor. After she released a single in 2019 already, Lohse started to release songs during 2025. They lead to this debut album. Nowadays, Marleen Lohse lives in Berlin.

Marleen Lohse – Wide Awake – Track by Track

The eleven song album lasts 33 minutes. Unfortunately, my promo comes with an incorrect order and song names – but I tried to fix it.

1. Wide Awake

Four of the six opening tracks of the albums have been featured as single releases already. Marleen Lohse starts her debut record with the title track Wide Awake. Her lovely and warm voice give pop and emotional and personal singer-songwriter vibes. The song is about being awake in a literal sense It is majorly driven by piano on the instrument side. A very nice way to step into her music.

2. Not Made For Beaches

I’m not made for beaches, but mountains, that’s what I like. The second song is full of dreams, desire. It rather leans towards traditional folk singer-songwriter music, without feeling outdated. These 3:27 minutes take you on a brief, personal story- You simply listen and enjoy. That’s what I need – stick to my dreams is the closing message of this beautiful listen.

3. Cherry Tree

The three minute song Cherry Tree is first unreleased song on the album. It comes with a more rhythmic style. Nonetheless, Marleen Lohse tries to work with a limited arrangement, the focus is on her voice and the storytelling. The metaphor of the song is a tree in front of her window, which has been logged. This leaves a gap and leads to a search for a new safe and familiar space. A nice song with an indie-pop signature.

4. Laterland

I’m still awake, would you come out for a walk, I’ll meet you at your door. The song is about problems, which haven’t been properly discussed yet and about the feelings and emotions linked to it. There are just very few songs on this album during which you feel that close to the artist.

5. Losing Sight

Losing Sight is about a new episode in life creates uncertainty and a lack of orientation. Losing sight of me, losing sight of you is the consequence of that. After a slower beginning of the song, the track is rather rhythmic and might thus even make you move to its vibes.

6. Friendship

I’m still awake, would you come out for a walk, I’ll meet you at your door – in the sixth song, Marleen Lohse praises the safe space Friendship is creating. The style of the song reminds of the track before. On top of the indie-pop signature, the song comes with country-folk vibes. Lohse is stating Call me anytime and I’ll be there. A fragile, intimate, but lovely song with a lovely melody.

7. When The Wolves Cry

The seventh song deals with late at night when the wolves cry. Lohse asks you better don’t leave me alone. A moonlight situation among two people requires nothing but hugs and warmth. Or like hold me like you never let me go. A lovely listen.

8. You Will Grow

You Will Grow – is that maybe also a message Marleen Lohse is sending to her child? Most of this very calm song’s lyrics would perfectly fit. And her style to spend confidence and energy on that route is simply amazing.

9. Bumpy Road

With just about two minutes, Bumpy Road is the shortest track on the album. However, the song is very rhythmic, energetic, even loud compared to the other tracks of the album. By that, it also feels a bit of more mainstream-alike. By that it is quite unique on the Wide Awake album.

10. Go Solo

While all the other songs are originals, Go Solo is Wide Awake‘s only cover. The English singer-songwriter Tom Rosenthal had a hit with this song in 2014 and even gained a platinum record for it in Germany. In the press kit, Lohse states that it is a very special song for her. The song accompanies me for many years now. Again and again, it reminded me of moments, in which you leave on your own but stay connected innerly. A lovely interpretation.

11. Genau für Dich gemacht

The closing song is a surprise. The song feels like a very simple recording. In fact, Marleen Lohse recorded this track, accompanied by the ukulele only, sitting on the edge on the bed of her child. You even hear her son in the background.

Marleen Lohse – Wide Awake – My View

The first single releases of Wide Awake have already been promising – and the album does not disappoint. Marleen Lohse proofs that she is not only a popular actress, but a skilled and lovely musician and storyteller. I absolutely loved listening to her music.
