This time in my album reviews, I am having a listen to some indie-pop. Lande Hekt grew her career in a band, before turning solo. Lucky Now is already her third studio album. Here is my review of the 30th January 2026 release.

Lande Hekt – About The Artist

Lande Hekt started her career with punk rock and indie rock in the trio Muncie Girls. The Exeter band was active from 2010 to 2023, releasing two albums and five EPs. In the later years of the band, Hekt also started going solo. Her debut EP was Gigantic Disappointment in 2019. Two albums, Going to Hell (2021) and House Without a View (2022) followed thereafter.

Lande Hekt – Lucky Now – Track by Track

The eleven song album lasts 35 minutes.

1. Kitchen II

Kitchen has been a title of a song Hekt released in 2020. Now, there is some sort of successor track. Strumming guitars, a clear rhythm, and a nice bass groove define the sound on the instrumental side. The versatile, high voice of the artist does the vocal part. The combination is working out really well.

2. Lucky Now

The second song of the album is Lucky Now. The song is one of two tracks which have been shared before album release already. The song has a nice focus on the chorus. Similar to the opener, Lande Hekt’s sound has a nice ease – even though the story is having a certain depth.

3. Rabbits

Between the two previously released songs, there is Rabbits. The general character of the songs so far is similar, even though this chorus is a step closer to indie-rock. It comes with a nicely flowing melody, which reminds me of mid-1990’s pop music.

4. Favourite Pair of Shoes

The guitars at the beginning of the song lead to a flavor of folk and Americana vibes. However, the indie character of Favourite Pair of Shoes breaks through very quickly. Lande Hekt play with electronic elements and distortion, like in many songs of Lucky Now here. The melodies have a nice catch, which leads to a nice listen.

5. Middle Of The Night

The fifth track takes you to the Middle Of The Night. There is always a touch of dream-pop in this record – but this song definitely increases the level. A very harmonic, calm listen, which makes you listen to the British artist.

6. Circular

Harder riffs, more present beats – Circular is definitely much louder than its predecessor. The distorted guitar sounds even lead to a comparably experimental listen. A bit of pop, a touch of indie and some rocking elements lead to a very present and interesting composition.

7. A Million Broken Hearts

While Circular had some surprising elements, A Million Broken Hearts is a rather typical Lucky Now track. This also implies that Lande is – again – smartly combining melodic and vocal elements. Some parts of the song are rather dreaming and thoughtful, while the chorus has a nice drive and presence. I really like it.

8. My Imaginary Friend

One of the nicest melodies of Lucky Now is presented by My Imaginary Friend. Together with the lovely storytelling, it is one of the key tracks of the album to me. It nonetheless stays in the characteristic songs of the album. If you want to give Lande a brief chance getting into her music, this one is a wise choice.

9. The Sky

Most of the songs on Lucky Now are roughly three minutes long. The Sky is the shortest of them, solely lasting 2:38 minutes. Nonetheless, the song leaves a mark while listening to the album. Especially the chorus does have a really nice touch.

10. Submarine

Submarine is a darker, more rocking track of the album. However, it also has some rather quiet moments as well, like the bridge. This vessel is not sinking, but it does not catch me as much as other songs of the album.

11. Coming Home

The album closes with Coming Home. The chucker-out starts like a typical folk singer-songwriter track, but later also presents characteristic elements of Hekt’s music. A good choice for a farewell song, indeed.

Lande Hekt – Lucky Now – Track by Track

I really like Lucky Now. Lande Hekt presents her very characteristic music and illustrates her singer-songwriter skills. However, I would love to have a higher frequency of special and surprising elements in this record. Thus, it is a good one for me, but does not reach the top of the rating scale.

Favorite Song: A Million Broken Hearts
