Alternative pop artist Alicia Witt is also known from movies, TV and as a theater actress. Especially during the last years, she has strengthened her profile as a musician. On 28th August 2026, she shares her new album, Between Heaven and Earth. Here is my review.

 

Alicia Witt – About The Artist

Alicia Witt, born on 21st August 1975, is a US American artist and musician. The inital career of the Worcester, Massachusetts, native was a child actress, when she played in Dune and Twin Peaks. Her musical career started in the 1990’s, initially as a pianist. Her first album release was Live at Rockwood n 2012. She released five albums so far, including I Think I’m Spending Christmas with You. The 2024 holiday album is also her most recent major release.

 

Alicia Witt – Between Heaven and Earth – Track by Track

The 13 song album lasts 59 minutes.

1. Love Anyway

Alicia Witt goes for a prolonged piano intro to her 2026 album. It takes more than a minute before her voice joins in for Love Anyway.  With the first chorus latest, you are into the song and enjoy this beautiful ballad, which starts rather quiet, but later gains quite some energy.

So I’m gonna keep my mouth shut
Keep my heart wide open
I’m gonna keep my head up
Like I know where I’m going
I’m gonna look you in the eye
Stare down faith and all the signs that say
Mothing’s gonna change
And love anyway

2. Between Heaven and Earth

Again, there is a longer intro, before Between Heaven and Earth incepts. The song feels interesting with its beautiful, even a bit of soupy waltz melody. It could be easily used for a love scene of a fairy tale movie. The instrumental choice also reminds my of fun fair music. This all leads to beautiful memories and thoughts and his rather heartwarming, before the song also takes some detours from these vibes.

3. Artifacts

After the playful vibes before, Artifacts presents another very different kind of sound. There is some mystery, some depth and intensity in this listen. The backing melodies allow a lovely focus on Alicia Witt’s voice, but still is strong enough to create a nice character. Artifacts is one of these songs, which simply make you listen. I really like that.

4. Kindred

Where does life
Turn to now
How do you make your way
Thru ancient roman times

The fourth song, Kindred, is the most epic one on Between Heaven and Earth. In total, it takes seven minutes. The song nicely takes you through different stages and melodies. These stages all come with a dreaming, gentle atmosphere, before the track takes a long fade-out. Really nice work with a beautiful, fine instrumental side.

5. Test Drive

Next Alicia Witt takes you on her Test Drive. The song has a significantly more present melody than the tracks before. It is majorly driven by the piano, but also uses some other instruments as well. The steady vocal presence of the artists turns the song to a magical experience.

6. You Just Do

The playful, fairy tale-alike style of You Just Do reminds of sound the title track. It is a rather demanding track, but still has a nice ease. Towards the end, it also has some more intense instrumental moments.

7. Freeze Frame

Here and there, the songs of Between Heaven and Earth have a touch of jazz. In this feature single, Freeze Frame, the influence is a even rather strong and present. There are also elements of swing. Overall, the song has a very strong presence.

8. Blue Moon

Flute sounds and the piano lead you into Blue Moon. You feel the atmosphere, the intensity of the setting in this one. And you simply enjoy listening to this one.

It’s a blue moon just out of reach
Would i lose you if i surrender
If i let go would you hold onto me

9. Build Me A Dream

The ninth track lives from some contrasts within the song. On the one hand, there are some rather dark elements. Then, there are some more joyful ones. Again, Alicia Witt nicely works with different instrumental elements.

10. Thank You (feat. John Paul White)

Alongside Grammy-winning countryman John Paul White (formerly The Civil Wars), Alicia Witt says Thank You in this song. The duet is very harmonic and thus adds a really nice touch to the album.

11. Undivided

Undivided is a lovely piano ballad. In addition to the keys instrument, some brass elements strengthen the emotional and personal touch of the song. It’s a really nice one.

Freeing up a quiet something
In my heart where you’ve resided

12. More

The penultimate More is another song Alicia Witt shared before album release. The gentle, but still dramatic and dynamic style continues in this song. The slight rhythm in the background even leads to some mainstream pop vibes.

13. The Director

The Director closes Between Heaven and Earth. It feels like the even more gentle fade-out of an already very gentle album.

Alicia Witt – Between Heaven and Earth – My View

I struggle with the album. On the one hand, it is a beauty. Alicia Witt does some magical performance on this record. The songs are atmospheric. On the other hand, I just cannot deny that I got a bit of tired Between Heaven and Earth. There are certain similarities in the songs (which are lovely ones individually). Here and there, I felt a lack of exciting moments – like the duet with John Paul White is providing. Thus, I do see a good rating for this release, but it is missing the high scores.
