  • Nice style of soul, jazz and gospel
  • Versatile songs

In my 2026 album reviews, I haven’t done too many jazzy music so far. For the 5th June 2026 reviews, I ran into a very interesting album of that sphere. Mica Millar released her sophomore album A Little Bit of Me on that day. Here is my review.

Mica Millar – About The Artist

Mica Millar is a British jazz-soul singer-songwriter from Manchester. In 2022, she released her debut album Heaven Knows. A Little Bit of Me has been recorded in France, at the studio based in Brad Pitt’s chateau. The press kit describes the topic of the album with Across its songs she examines emotional duality –  the tension between aspiration and self preservation, desire and truth, longing and clarity – from a deeply personal, female perspective.

Mica Millar – A Little Bit of Me – Track by Track

The 14 track album lasts 50 minutes.

1. A Little Bit of Me

Mica Millar begins her sophomore album with the title track. A Little Bit of Me has the beautiful gentle groove of a blues, but is also playful and has a nice ease. Her vocals are striking and lead to a nice dynamics during the listen.  A promising beginning.

2. Times Like These

Times Like These is a more rhythmic and more vocal centric than the opener. The song has an intense an dramatic touch. The song nicely describes emptional struggle.

At times like these
I wish I’d be, leaning on another by now
And in all my doubt
No reaching out
I keep on-a-walking without

3. Under My Skin

And I cannot hardly withstand it how you gonna withstand me – the third song has a very personal and intimate touch. Right thereafter, Millar requests Gonna take it like a good man, lay me down, and set me free. The song is thoughtful, vulnerable, fragile. And you keep your fingers crossed that Save me from daydreaming is indeed coming true. The song does not only tell its story in a lovely way, it also nicely works with different levels of vocals.

4. Warning Sign

Warning Sign has a nice focus on the melodic chorus, which has a touch of blues and gospel. Despite the song is shorter than three minutes after longer tracks before, it does leave an intense mark. And you get more and more A Little Bit of Me of the artist.

5. It’s You

It’s You has a nice groove and fine steady rhythm. The playful style adds jazzy vibes to the soul and pop elements. The song spreads a lot of energy, when Millar states I got a feelin’, this could be somethin’. Whatever this special night she is sharing finally lead to in real life, it at least lead to a fun to listen song with a nice lightness.

6. The Boardway

In the sixth track, the British artist takes you to The Broadway. But I’m headin’ to The Boardway honey ‘cause i’ve got some dancin’ to get off my chest, she states in the first verse. And this dance is a hot and soulful one. The song has a really nice instrumental background, which overall leads to a very enjoyable listen.

7. A Little More Time For Love

The seventh song has been released on 30th April 2026. The song is powerful, fast and rhythmic and thus continues with the dancing vibes on A Little Bit of Me. Again, the complexity of the song is enjoyable, without making the song feel heavy to digest at all.

8. If You Stay

If you stay, then I may be over darlin’ – the eighth song is significantly slower than the tracks before. The meandering groove gives some blues touch, the dialog with the background singers has a touch of Gospel. With the focus on the vocal part, the song has a very personal touch. Impressing!

9. My Joy

My Joy has a similar style than the song before. The vocal focus is much more on Mica’s side, though. In the chorus, Millar is full of desire asking Would you be my joy?.

10. See You On The Other Side

I get this feelin’ deep down in my chest
I know when it comes, it’s gonna take my best
And I can’t fight it, only time will heal
Need a little bit of patience for the way I feel

The title of the March 2026 release See You On The Other Side does not read too optimistic. Again, the straight, honest storytelling is a key striking element of the song. The present rhythm and the keyboard element add a pop-ish touch to the song. I really like it.

11. Hard Times

The album deals quite a lot with Hard Times and hard emotions, so that this song title is not that surprising. Indeed, though, the song is a swear, a statement of fidelity and support. When times get hard I won’t let you down are the opening words of the chorus. The fast rhythm  and the accentuated vocals lead to a catching listen.

12. Oh Freedom

Ah, Take me to the river
Take me to the river
So we can wash our troubles away
Oh, I got faith in freedom
And nothing’s gonna stand in my way

Not only because the song has a spiritual message, it has a strong gospel touch. Also in the context of the entire record, this one has a very strong presence. I enjoy listening to it.

13. Hand on My Soul

Said I could be yours
And you could be mine honey
And I know what you mean
When you make time for me
You were the one
Who knew this could be a certain kind-a-love
Where the days roll, and the nights fall
All over us

There are so many songs about love and struggle in this album – it feels like a treat listening to this beautiful ballad. The organ work in the background leads to a beautiful sound bedding. And Millar’s voice is striking once more again. Hand on My Soul is indeed a great song.

14. When You’re Gone

The longest message of A Little Bit of Me is last. When You’re Gone is a slow, almost five minute track. On the one hand, the song is fine and feels very intimate. On the other hand, the intense energy emphasizes the final message of the album and leads to a great close.

Mica Millar – A Little Bit of Me – Track by Track

When I ran into A Little Bit of Me on a promotion platform, the album felt really special. After having a deeper listen, Mica Millar and her A Little Bit of Me did not disappoint at all. The British artist did a great job recording 14 strong and personal messages. There are so many deep emotions in it – and you feel to relate to so many of them. Thus, the album is worth a listen – even if you are typically outside the soul and jazz community.
