Werner Bekker just finished his tour through Germany. So far I have just featured with South African artist with individual tracks. Time to draw some major attention on him and share my review of his new album Lightwoven with you. He will release it on 20th June 2025.
Werner Bekker – Lightwoven – About The Artist
Werner Bekker is a South African singer-songwriter from Cape Town. Releasing music since 2018, he published his debut EP In my cluttered head in 2021. One year later, he released his eight song album Wrong Side of Twenty. In 2024, he added the EP Love the Texture, Hate the Taste. His music is a blending of folk and pop sounds.
Werner Bekker – Lightwoven – Track by Track
The nine track album lasts 37 minutes.

1. Goodbye Honey
Five Lightwoven tracks have been released beforehand, Goodbye Honey is one of them. The song initially feels quite much like a straight folk song – apart from the stomping drums in the background. However, towards the chorus, the song gains more energy. A really nice first track.
2. Coloured by Thoughts
Coloured by Thoughts has a slightly stronger instrumental presence than the opener. Especially the drums are quite much in focus for parts of the songs. This leads to a certain ease of the song, which spreads warmth and summer vibes. I really like this one.
3. Compromise
Compromise kicks off a set of three so-far unreleased songs. The song is a rather calm song, which strongly leans towards folk music. However, Werner Bekker adds a lovely and special atmosphere to this song. Nice.
4. Creaking Door
Just by a few seconds, the almost five minute Creaking Door is the longest song on Lightwoven. It nicely connects to Compromise as it again creates a very special, mysterious atmosphere. Towards the end, the song turns into a loud, angry listen.
5. Daisy
Daisy continues the album in a calm and gentle style. Bekker is partially humming the melody of this track. Overall, the fifth song spreads a lot of harmony and gentleness.
6. Broken Record
Now, Bekker presents three previously released songs in a row. The song starts as calm as Daisy is closing. However, Broken Record has some more energetic parts as well. Furthermore, the South African shows a beautiful and wide range on the vocal side.
7. I Can Take It
I Can Take It takes the next three minutes of Lightwoven. The song mostly is very quiet, with a calm voice and a strumming acoustic guitar. However, Bekker keeps the plot interesting and spreads in some more energetic moments as well. Nice!
8. Mood
Obviously, Werner Bekker won’t become a die-hard rocker during these nine tracks. However, the 4:25 minute song Mood changes its style and also presents some interesting instrumental elements. The multi-layered sound towards the end of the song almost feels massive in the context of the whole album.
9. Long Fuse
Long Fuse closes the album. It relies on the same elements like the songs before: smart songwriting and interesting storytelling. Thus, it feels like a perfect ending of Lightwoven.

Werner Bekker – Lightwoven – My View
Werner Bekker is not loud. He is doing the smart and fine songwriting. Here and there, one might wish for a louder bang – but finally, the album is fine just as it is like. It neither melts your face not makes you dance – but it impresses with musical beauty.
