I arrived in Salzburg late before I had the Alpen-Sylt-Express night train ride from Salzburg to Sylt the day after. In order to make best use of my time in the Austrian city, I selected the Motel One Salzburg – Mirabell as a central hotel with good walking distance to the main station as well as key attractions of the city. Here is my review, based on a stay in mid-September 2020.
Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell – Location
The Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell is located right at the Elisabethkanal at the shore of the Salzach River. There is a bus station right next to the hotel, which also connects to Salzburg Airport. I had a roughly 15 minute drive from the airport, though, which was roughly 15 Euro. The walk to Salzburg Main Station is about a ten minutes.
There are a lot of other interesting locations in walking distance. The former Mozart Residence is some ten minutes away as well, old town some five minutes longer. There walk along the river is very nice and quiet. Especially in the rail station area, there are a lot of additional shopping and dining opportunities as well.
Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell – Rooms
I booked a THE ONE King room. Including breakfast and all taxes, the prepaid rate was 92.05 EUR. The corner room was very large and had typical (basic) Motel One room style. The work desk was sufficient, the bed gave me a good sleep. The Motel One concept does not include a minibar or similar features.
The shower bathroom was really sufficient size as well. I like the Motel One amenities as well. Thus, the room suited my needs and was overall even a bit larger than I actually expected.
Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell – Breakfast
The breakfast area felt a bit narrow, but the selection of food was really nice – I also liked the presentation of items in the cosy restaurant – lounge area. The hotel definitely offered a nice start into the day here.
Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell – Service
The rear of the building features a bunch of hotel parking lots – which is, of course, very convenient in that central location. The WiFi performance was sufficient.
The staff was very welcoming. Unfortunately, there had been a major incident at check-in as another hotel guest had gotten my room – in contrast to my reservation, his one has not been prepaid. This is the key reason why I decided that the hotel cannot receive very good ratings from my side – especially in Covid-19 times where contact tracing is essential, I do expect that hotels take extra care about the correct data provided by their guests. People travelling on your identity are not acceptable. From a nowadays perspective, I feel bad that the reception staff could persuade me not to call the police – which I feel would have been the appropriate reaction. I had been assigned another room. Of course, there has been a significant faulty behavior by the other hotel guest, who obviously did not check the registration form. The whole hassle took me about 15 minute additional check-in.
Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell – My View
Bad luck, Motel One Salzburg-Mirabell. The stay in the hotel was indeed a good one and absolutely met my expectation – apart from the registration issue, which is just an absolute no-go. No chance for a Top Pick! rating here – but the overall good performance still leads to a good review.
