Keep Out Of The Storm is the first album of The Sheepdogs after the departure of their founding drummer Sam Corbett. The band is looking back to a more than twenty year history. Here is my review of the record released on 27th February 2026.

The Sheepdogs – About The Artists

The Sheepdogs are a Canadian rock band. They formed in 2004 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. So far, the band has won four Juno Awards. The current lineup is Ewan Currie (vocals, guitars), Ryan Gullen (bass), Shamus Currie (keys), and Ricky Paquette (guitar). Ewan Currie and Gullen ae founding members of the band. Their debut album Trying to Grow has been released in 2007. So far, the band has released eight albums. The last studio album is the 2022 Outta Sight. Their last major release is the 2024 EP Hell Together.

The Sheepdogs – Keep Out Of The Storm – Track by Track

The eleven track album lasts 43 minutes.

1. Nobody But You

The first three songs of the album have already been released as singles. The opener Nobody But You comes with classic rock vibes, but also a flavor of Americana. You quickly get into the song and enjoy the versatile, sometimes slightly surprising sound of the band.

2. Keep Out Of The Storm

The title track of the 2026 album of The Sheepdogs has also been the first single release of the Canadians this year. They shared Keep Out Of The Storm on 13th January 2026. The song has some more forceful elements. It is not as present as the opener to me – even though the more groovy and thus has a nice touch.

3. I Do

I Do has been the band’s most recent single release. The song makes the Canadians feels very traditional. The song has a nice melody. It surprises with a slight flavor of glam or and a lovely ease which simply lets you enjoy this record very easily.

4. Playing All Night. Long

Playing All Night Long – The Sheepdogs are not doing that in their fourth song. However, the 5:14 minute sons is at least the longest song on Keep Out of the Storm. The song could use a strong and more variable plot than what the band is actually sharing in that track.

5. Take A Look At Me Riding

Take A Look At Me Riding is a rather slow song with a touch of melancholy. There are some interesting melodic elements, like brass sounds and a nice flow on the guitar side. Even though the 3:33 minute song is not an epic one, I just cannot stop the feeling that the song has a slightly lengthy touch.

6. All I Wanna Do

After the slower predecessor, the guitar riffs, which are present from the very first moment of this one, are very welcome. The song is louder, feels more energetic. The arrangement is smart, I feel that the on-stage version of that song, will be even better.

7. Bad For Your Health

The present beat of Bad For Your Health and the slightly bluesy groove turn the seventh track into an interesting listen. Again, the band manages having a nice leverage between vocal and instrumental parts. Nonetheless, I am caught more strongly by the instruments in this song.

8. Breezy

The first moments of Breezy already tell the user that the speed of the album is slowing down now. The song is quite focused on the vocals, even though there are some instrumental parts in Breezy as well. The Sheepdogs again underline their talent in telling stories, but the arrangement doe s not always support these kind of feelings.

9. The Owl

The Owl starts on the rather slow range of songs. There is not too much energy in here, the keyboard/synth lines do add quite a lot and stay in one’s mind. Nonetheless the song does not manage to strike in the context of the album.

10. The Yellow Line

This instrumental works very nicely. The instrumentalists have their showcase in here – and they manage to do it. A really nice composition, which feels to deliver

11. Out All Night

Out All Night increases the speed again. With the full band setting, the song reminds of the very first songs of the album. An absolutely nice one.

The Sheepdogs – Keep Out Of The Storm – My View

I absolutely look forward to the upcoming The Sheepdogs tour at the end of 2026 (see bellow). The album underlines the band’s big talent. The opening songs and the chucker-out of Keep Out Of The Storm are absolutely nice listens. Unfortunately, The Sheepdogs cannot keep up with that in the middle of the record. On stage, though I can imagine that even the calmer and more quiet songs do have a better chance to define their profile. Despite all that, the record is an absolutely nice one.

Favorite Song: Out All Night
