Flyctory.com Pros

  • Modern hotel in a very handy location

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Significant Housekeeping issues at check-in
  • Service issues and no housekeeping during stay
  • Breakfast practically not possible on one day during our stay

My wife and I had a road trip through the Southwest of the United States, ending up in Phoenix. From there, we also visited Tucson and finally flew back home. Based on the proximity of the hotel to the airport and its very good traffic connections, we opted for the Home2 Suites by Hilton Phoenix Airport South. The features of that Hilton brand, having a nice kitchenette in the room, also felt like the ideal choice for the four night stay. Here is our review.

Please not that there is also a Home2 Suites Phoenix Airport North. This one is explicitly not meant by this review.

Home2Suites Phoenix Airport South – Location & Access

The Home2 Suites is located in a commercial area. There are a lot of services around, many are useful for travelers. Right at the main entrance of the building, there is a Chipotle Mexican fast food. The area features a lot of fast food restaurants, with quite a bunch of them in walking distance. There is also a gas station right in front of the hotel. Despite major roads around, the hotel felt rather quiet and comparably well insulated against outside sounds. You did hear the neighbors and people in the hallway, though.

Regarding the traffic connection, the Home2 Suites is a typical hotel if you travel by car. They do offer an airport shuttle though (not sure how it is working, there was no information). Just after two or three minutes, you are already at the I-10 Interstate, bringing you to Los Angeles, Flagstaff, or Tucson. This was quite ideal for our purpose. You have to mention that the signs around and the structure of the lanes of the roads is not really straigh-forward From various directions, we missed the correct exit. The hotel also feels having sufficient parking capacities. One thing I typically love about US hotels is that there is a garbage bin at the entrance. After a longer drive, you can dispose the leftovers in your car there. However, this Home2 Suites did not have that service, which felt a bit of a shame to me. Please note that the hotel is at the Southeast of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX). If you want to return a rental car, these facilities are on the West side of the airport, a some ten minutes drive in case the road is clear.

Home2Suites Phoenix Airport South – The Room

My wife and I had four nights in the Home2 Suites. The total rate in December 2025, starting at Christmas Day, was 516.33 USD for a King Studio Suite Room. The hotel solely offers Studio Suite rooms, i.e. there is no option with separate bedrooms. The room was rather long, beginning with the kitchen area and the bathroom on the right. I really love the large work desk area in Home2 Suites hotels. Furthermore, there was a good distribution of power outlets in the room. The rear of the room featured the bed and TV set. The space around the bed, especially towards the window, is rather narrow. I also did not like that the air conditioning is right next to the bed.

The bathroom felt rather compact. There were basic amenities provided in dispensers as well as a soap bar at the sink (despite there was liquid soap in a dispenser as well. In the living room, the lamp at the work desk was not plugged into the power outlet. Another lamp at the sofa did not have a light bulb.

Housekeeping and Maintenance Issues

So far, so good. Unfortunately, there was a bad impression about the room from the very beginning. We spotted some plastic garbage on the floor, obviously from a previous guest as well as significant hair in the kitchen and bathroom. There was also a cut-off fingernail right next to the telephone. Later, we also found a cent coin on the ground. You can name these kind of issues sloppy housekeeping (if there was sensible housekeeping at all). Later we also spotted (see pictures) that somebody had obviously broken off the dispenser for shower gel in the shower. These things may happen, but I would have at least expected having a loose dispenser somewhere in the shower. The number of knives and other cutlery did not match to the number of plates, there were similar issues with the towels. Overall, we did not trust housekeeping at all.

We reported these issues to the reception desk. A basic additional cleaning was done immediately. However, the Home2 Suites policies, also given as a sticker in the bathroom, state that there is housekeeping every other day. During our four day stay, there was no housekeeping at all. We were obviously not the only guests with that issues as at the elevators and even at the coffee dispensers in the lobby, bags of garbage were piling up. We also had the impression that the hallways of our hotel floor (2nd floor) was solely cleaned once during our entire stay.

Home2Suites Phoenix Airport South – Breakfast

Breakfast was served in the lobby. In general, I really like how Hilton has modified the Home2 Suites breakfast and turned it into a signature dish. There is a selection of different and varying hot items, bread, oatmeal, yogurt and other dishes. However, already at the first morning, the hotel had issues. One handle of the cabinet for warm dishes had broken off and was repaired two days later. In general, they struggled to refill and manage the buffet, even though the hotel did not feel that packed. Breakfast times are 6:00 to 9:00 (10:00 on weekends), which is worth mentioning as it forces you getting up rather early.

On our last breakfast on Sunday (we had to leave very early on Monday to the airport), things got absolutely nuts. The organization and staffing of the buffet was obviously not sufficient. Practically all elements of the buffet, including coffee and break, were empty and not refilled. Even though there were maybe 20 to 30 people at the buffet at that time, they were all lining up for refills, which felt chaotic. The management of the situation did not feel fortunate, too. The reception staff did not really help out to keep the buffet somehow running. Finally, we decided to grab some additional breakfast at a gas station.

Home2Suites Phoenix Airport South – Services

The people in the hotel were somehow nice. However, I felt that they knew about the situation in the hotel and that services don’t run well. During check-in, the lady at the reception desk did something in parallel on her cell phone, which I feel being rude and respectless. The desk and the staff there felt weird during our entire stay. You rarely had hotel staff there. Yes, you do have that in other hotels as well. They are working in the office and coming to the desk when a guest is approaching it. During our stay at the Home2 Suites Phoenix Airport South, though, they felt hanging out in front of the hotel most of the time, though. This simply did not leave a good impression.

The WiFi provided by the hotel was working very well. The hotel offers a small outdoor pool at its rear, facing the parking lot. Additionally, there is a combined gym and laundry on ground level – one of these feature elements of the newer Home2 Suites hotels.

Home2Suites Phoenix Airport South – My View

The Home2 Suites Phoenix Airport South has a lot of potential. The restaurants and service around as well as the proximity to the Interstate and the airport turn it into a very attractive location for travelers. The hotel is rather new and feels modern. However and unfortunately, they do have a huge problem in this place. There are definitely some management and coordination issues, some of them simply become too obvious to the hotel guest. Finally, the Home2 Suites did not deliver the service to us which it should deliver. Especially for a longer stay, I would definitely recommend to aim for another option.
