Flyctory.com Pros

  • Small, family friendly animal park
  • Rather large habitats with majorly domestic animals
  • Nice scenery and services

In early August 2025, my wife and I made a quick Sunday excursion. As we wanted to make use of our Ruhr.TopCards, we decided to have a look at a small animal park in Kamp-Lintfort, which was new to the 2025 portfolio of the multiple-attraction ticket. Here is my review of the Kalisto Tierpark & Cafe (“Kalisto Animal Park & Cafe”).

Kalisto Animal Park & Cafe- Location & Admission

Kamp-Lintfort is a city in the Western part of the Ruhrgebiet region. The animal park is located in a former mining area. There are a couple of attractions related to that, including a former mine built to train workers and a shaft tower, which is nowadays used as an observation deck. Thus, the area is really picturesque and feels like a major park, with playgrounds and other items, which made the locals obviously love to hang out there. If you come by car, there is a really large, free parking lot. It is a gravel lot, though.

From April until the end of October, the park opens from 10:00 to 18:00. In the winter months, doors close at 17:00. You can also stay a bit longer, there are exit turnstiles to get out. Adult admission is 6.50 EUR. Kids under 6 years are free. For 2 EUR, you can buy a cup of vegetables to feed some of the animals. There may be opening restrictions due to adverse weather conditions. The Kalisto Animal Park accepts the Ruhr.TopCard since 2025.

Kalisto Animal Park & Cafe – The Visit

The animal park is rather slow, but very charming. They just have a few animals, with quite a focus on typical pets and farm animals. For example, Kalisto has sheep, goats, ponies, alpacas, or donkeys. The habitats feel to be very suitable in regards of size. Even though many animals do interact with the visitor, they also have areas in which they are protected from human interaction.

The highlights of the park are likely the meerkats (with which you cannot interact, obviously) and a walk-through aviary. The latter also hosts the guinea pigs. I loved to feed the chicken (they love salad, which I felt is very fun). Younger visitors also find a nice playground.

Kalisto Animal Park & Cafe – Services

Overall, the staff at Kalisto was very nice. At the entrance, you get a stamp on your hand so that you leave and come back the same day. The animal park also drives a cafe, which sells typical snacks including warm dishes. The cafe, which is close to the entrance, can also be visited without buying admission.

Kalisto Animal Park & Cafe – My View

I really like Kalisto Animal Park & Cafe. It is a nicely driven, very interactive and neat animal park. The cafe and playground features turn it into a nice place, especially for families, who want to avoid the large zoos in the area, like the ones in Duisburg or Cologne.
