Due to physical issues, I had to completely stop publishing reviews on Flyctory.com this week. One impact was that I just could not complete the Songs of the Week this time for Saturday morning. I had to delay the post to Sunday. There will also be reduced updates of the website next week.
MAX feat. Andy Grammer – The Thing I Love
I love to look into different genres and special songs in my weekly song radar. However, this time, I went for a track which I believe to have big potential in mainstream radio as well. MAX, in full civil name Max George Schneider, is a 1992 born New York City native. The collaboration with his countryman Andy Grammer is extremely catching – a great song!
Tokio Hotel – Changes
I wouldn’t naturally name Tokio Hotel to be one of my favorite German bands – but if they release songs like Changes, you just have to love the pop-rock quartet. The chorus is an especially strong part of the listen.
Rea Garvey – Happy Christmas
The Irish singer-songwriter Rea Garvey has quite some presence on Flyctory.com currently. Just recently I reviewed and loved the soundtrack to his biographical Before I Met Supergirl. He will soon be on a short Christmas tour. I am sure that his new single Happy Christmas will be part of it. A nice pop-ish track.
Cavetown – NPC
Running with Scissors – when I read that album title, I inevitably have to think of the 1999 album by Weird Al Yankovic. However, it will also be the title of the English band Cavetown’s fourth record, which will be released on 16th January 2026. The band around Robin Skinner strikes in this appetizer.
Iris Mareike Steen – Ruhe nach dem Sturm
The last time I featured Iris Mareike Steen in my Songs of the Week was on 27th March 2023. At that the former daily soap star released Nichts mehr wert. More than two years later, she shares Ruhe nach dem Sturm. I really like this release by the Hamburg-origin actress and musician.
HOKKA – In The Darkness
Joel Hokka names this band. The Finnish rock singer and guitarist from Lahti has left his original band Blind Channel this years. With bandmates like The Rasmus guitarist Pauli Rantasalmi and drummer Jimi Aslak, this song feels promising. A debut album is already planned.
Massive Wagons – Everywhere We Go
Another British act I feature this week are Massive Wagons. The band from Carnforth is on tour soon. I am sure than that their new song Everywhere We Go will rock the audience when they are on stage.
AnnenMayKantereit – Beautiful
I am typically rather shy of adding cover songs to my release radar series. However, the Cologne music stars AnnenMayKantereit are just too good in here. Their version of Beautiful, written by Linda Perry and typically known in the Christina Aguilera version, is simply too good. Love it!
Kids in the basement – Hold On
The band name Kids in the basement is in fact the story of this teenage band from Munich. The band formed in the basement of their school, the Willi-Graf-Gymnasium in the Bavarian capital. Hold on and reflect for a moment, they ask in their debut release. And this leads to a great listen.
Oscar Javelot – My Heaven
With a set of slow, thoughtful and reflecting songs, there is some sort of holiday spirit at the end of this posting. One of these songs is by Oscar Javelot, who is especially known as a solo musician with his Romanian panpipes. This time, the Southern German artist is going vocal in his lovely My Heaven.
Martin Sven Moritz – A Thousand Joys of Wintertime
A Christmas and winter song in a very special style is closing my post this time. A Thousand Joys of Wintertime is a lovely melody by Martin Sven Moritz from Hamburg. Always great to divert into classical style music in here. I love the spirit of this instrumental track.
