For my trip to Vienna in January 2025, I needed a hotel with good rail connections, as I planned going to Bratislava in Slovakia and also wanted to use the Railjet connection to the airport. Thus, I opted for a place close to Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof). My choice for two nights has been an Accor option, the Novotel Vienna Main Station (Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof). Here is the review of my stay.

Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof – Location

The Novotel is located very close to the Northeast exit of Vienna Main Station. After crossing a street, you are already at the building which is hosting the hotel. First, you pass the ibis Hotel Wien Hauptbahnhof, then you are at the entrance to the more comfortable Accor option. You should pass the building on the right. A bit of misleadingly, there are also signs for both hotels on the opposite side, but no entrance to them. The area is ideal for travelers, as there are multiple grocery stores and food opportunities around. The ones located inside the station have more relaxing opening times. For example, there is also a small grocery store, which is also opening on Sundays.

The location also leads to very good connections from the hotel. You can take trains to Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia from the main station. Of course, there are local and regional services as well. From Südtiroler Platz station, which is linked to the station by an underpass, you can take metro U1 to city center (three stops to Stephansplatz). It is a bit of lengthy getting to that stop, though. The main station also features bus and coach connections, including international ones.

Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof – Room

I stayed two night at the Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof, from Sunday to Tuesday, in January 2025. I have booked a double room at a non-public rate. I got a room on the 16th floor. I initially felt this was an Executive Room, as the mini bar was filled with (complimentary) drinks and refilled after the first night. However, this room category comes with a large work desk – which was also the pain point of my room. It was really large and spacious and I loved the view over Vienna Main Station – but unfortunately, the room simply did not feature a proper place to work. There was just a small, round table, which also was a bit too low for ergonomic working. Really a shame, as I liked the room, the large luggage board and its services. A bit of a downside was that only one side of the bed featured a power outlet (both sides had USB ports, though), as that position on the other side featured a light switch.

The bathroom with a large shower was really nice as well. It also featured sufficient storage space for toiletries. I was a bit surprised that the door to the bathroom, a large full-size mirror on both sides, was not a sliding door, as I expected, but a regular one. The amenities provided in dispensers were by Rituals, which gave a very nice touch as well. Overall, the room was well-maintained and felt in very good condition. Cleaning and housekeeping was very pleasant as well.

Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof – Breakfast

Breakfast at the Novotel Vienna Main Station is served on ground level. The area is rather large, which lead to a relaxed feeling in the morning. It might be more packed in more popular travel times, though. I really liked the breakfast buffet at the Novotel, serving a wide variety of different items. There were some really nice dishes on the warm and cold side, including a nice range of juices and fruit, salmon, and some nice warm dishes. I overall really liked the buffet at the Novotel Vienna Main Station.

Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof – Service

Check-in and check-out was really friendly. As an accor gold member, I got a chocolate heart as a welcome present, which I appreciated very much. The WiFi in the hotel worked fine as well. On the very top floor, the Novotel is running a gym and spa area. The gym feels nice and comes with a really cool view of the city. The spa area, featuring a sauna and a steam bath, is only open during afternoon hours.

Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof- My View

The stay at the Novotel Vienna Main Station has been really nice. The staff is very friendly, the setting and location of the hotel is definitely on the very positive side as well. Thus, it is even more annoying that the too low small chair spoiled the very good impression of the hotel. Nonetheless, I had a really good time with this Accor outlet.
