Flyctory.com Cons

  • Too monotonous

I always love when I run into new artists and debut releases. Broken is in fact the debut EP by the English artist Ewan Mainwood. Unfortunately, the press package did not include too much bio information. Finally, the music country. The EP has been released on 1st July 2022.

Ewan Mainwood – About The Artist

Ewan Mainwood is a 22 year old musician from London. He was born in August 1999. He grew some popularity on TikTok and YouTube shorts. Mainwood is known to be a big fan of Ed Sheeran. It happens that they are now at the same record company.

Ewan Mainwood – Broken – Track by Track

The five song EP lasts 17 minutes.

1. No One Saving Me

I don’t wanna hurt you, I hate to make you sad
It’s not that I don’t love you, but I need more than that
You’rе drowning in your problems while holding despеrately
I’ve gotta let you go, ’cause there’s no one saving me

The first song of the album is already a very impressive statement. Ewan Mainwood does not need to much – finally, the song is based on his vocals and the piano. Simple, intimate – and magical.

2. Worry

Worry is more rhythmic than the opener and comes with a stomping base drum in the background. Mainwood is also using more instruments in here, even though the song does not loose all of its intimate touch. Overall, this one has a bit of the magic of the classic tracks by Mainwood’s idol, Ed Sheeran. Nicely arranged pop track.

3. Broken

The first song which has not been released yet, it the title track in the middle of the EP. The arrangement of this track is not too different from Worry, which has a slightly higher level of “magic” to me.

4. Unsaid

This dramatic farewell to a friend comes with a bit of a whiny and melancholic touch. Ewan Mainwood fans will definitely love that extra portion of emotions in this song. To me, it is just an average listen and rather the weak spot of the EP

5. Do You Ever Think About Me

Is wonder where you are and wonder what your name is
If you’re happy or if you’re in need of saving

In the last song, Ewan Mainwood asks Do You Ever Think About Me? in the chorus. a nice sum-up with a lot of love and emotions, just in line with the four tracks before.

Ewan Mainwood – Broken – My View

I really enjoyed listening to Broken. Even though it is a bit of monotonous in sound and also in regards of the topics, Ewan Mainwood tells his stories in a relatable way. Not a top-class release, but a good listen, which illustrates a high level of talent at the artist.
