Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Chandrasekar / Kadhe vs. Harrison / Kirkov- Match Report

The Indian pairing had an optimal start into the match. The broke the domestic team in the very first game of the match. Chandrasekar and Kadhe faced a risky situation when they allowed a deuce situation after already leading 40-0 in their very first game at serve. However, they saved the decide. This has been the last break point of that set. The Indians’ first set service stats were impressive. They had four aces as well as a first serve percentage of 85%. However, Harrison and Kirkov felt more and more confident. They just did not find the right tool to move their opponents out of their comfort zone. Thus, the Asian team won the first set by 6-4.

The second set, however, went completely opposite. Their first serve percentage dropped to 65% – which was especially crucial as they did not win a single point at an own second serve in the whole set. The US-Americans pumped themselves more and more, also driven by the fact that they broke their peers at the very first opportunity. Now it were Chandrasekar and Kadhe, who struggled. They did not find any way back into that set, finally committing another break in te sixth game of the set.

However, it had already been one of the key strength of the Indian pairing in their previous match that they are able to mentally reset quickly and adopt to the new situation. There did not feel too much mental struggle and the US-American dominance in the previous 23 minutes was absolutely gone. The Indians scored against the opponents’ serve in the second point did the same in the tenth one and in between profited from a double fault. Thus, the score was already 7-3 with the Indian team to serve. The US-Americans gave a great fight and closed up the score. Finally, an ace and another point brought them back into business. Now, the Indians just lead by one point, 8-7. However, they also were at own serve and stayed confident, advancing to the seminfinals with a 10-7 match tie-break win.
