Flyctory.com Pros

  • Very characteristic dark rock sound
  • Good, versatile and enjoyable tracks

Despite Wolfskull is a relatively new band, they have already built up quite some reputation. With Midnite Masters, the band is releasing their sophomore album on 25th July 2025. I had a listen.

Wolfskull – About The Artists

Wolfskull is a German dark rock / dark hard rock band from Essen. The band has been formed by Bjorn Feratu Fehl (guitar), Pete 9 (vocals), Drop D (bass), Boarz (guitar), and Devo (drums). In the meantime, Devo has been replaced by Styx. In 2019 already, the band released their debut EP Hexum, which received very good critics. In 2022, the band added Ave Goddess, their debut album. There is also an upgraded version of the debut EPHexum + (2023), which contains one additional studio track and four live recordings.

Wolfskull – Midnite Masters – Track by Track

The ten song album lasts 41 minutes.

1. Midnite Masters

The title track is opening the album. It took me a bit to get into the dark, bassy voice of Pete 9. However, the more I listen to Wolfskull, the more I feel it is a great fit to the band. Midnite Masters comes with a great and catching chorus, which is made to sing with the band. Definitely a good opener to their sophomore album, which stays in your mind.

2. Son Of Light

The howling lead vocals lead you into the second song of the album, Son Of Light. The instruments give an energetic rock atmosphere, driven by Styx‘s hammering drums. Nonetheless, there are also nicely flowing parts of the song, especially in the instrumental bridge, which is a core part of the track. Overall, the track is a treat for rock music lovers.

3. Holler In The Hollow

Holler In The Hollow is another song which has been shared by the Germans before the album. The song is a bit more on the harder and rougher side. The dark atmosphere is striking, the instrumental parts are fun. It’s definitely fun listening to these guys.

4. Destyna

As I lie in wait
Ripper in the shade
How I long for the touch
Deadly kisses in cold blood
As I lie in wait

Destyna starts very vocal-centric. This leads to an even darker and more melancholic sound than in the songs before. The catch of the track is the chorus though. It is melodic on the one side, but also continues with the general atmosphere of the song. One of my favorite listens of the album.

5. Jaguarette

Wolfskull have shared three Midnite Masters songs before album release – Jaguarette is the last one. It nicely introduces some Americana vibes to the album. She’s the queen of all the tortures love provides – not sure if that is a nice compliment to a lady. But in the context of the record, it feels absolutely fine.

6. Call Of The Wayward Ones

Practically all of the songs on the album last some four minutes. Call Of The Wayward Ones is special, as it does not even make it to 2:30 minutes. The track is a slow instrumental one with fine folk and Americana vibes. The marching rhythm leads to a very present listen, so that the song is more than just a brief interlude.

7. Mustang Baby

After this still rather comparably quiet moment of Midnite Masters, Wolfskull wake you up with Mustang Baby. There is a lot of rock and roll energy in the engine of this powerhouse. In the context in the album, the song feels to spread quite some positive energy. I am bound to the whiplash of the raw hide – this song stays in your mind.

8. Netherworld In Flames

Wolfskull go uptempo with Netherworld In Flames. The song reminds of the songs at the beginning of the album. The track has a nice intensity and especially the rather unusual style of Wolfskull’s lead singer leads to a very characteristic experience. I like it.

9. (I Wish It Could Be) Night All Day

(I Wish It Could Be) Night All Day – is there a more suitable title for a dark rock track? Already the first two lines I’m lost in silence, feeling lonely everymore, set the direction of the song. The Ruhrgebiet are not there to spread fun and happiness by the sound of their songs. This does not mean that they are not enjoyable.

10. Tyger Of Fate

Tyger Of Fate closes the band’s 2025 album. The guitars and the hammering drums warm you up for a faster listen. However, when Pete 9 steps at the microphone, the song does slow down a bit for the stanzas. Therefor, the chorus spreads massive rock energy. One of the key factors why this album is closing in style.

Wolfskull – Midnite Masters – My View

I have to admit that I was initially a bit of confused about Wolfskull and their sound. However, the more you listen to their songs, the more you enjoy them. Don’t expect a funny rock summer party, though. The dark songs of Midnite Masters lead to an enjoyable rock music experience in their very own way. I really like this one.

Favorite Song: Mustang Baby
