Saturday 6th July 2024 came with the longest schedule of the German Under 18 / Under 23 Athletics Nationals. There were a lot of races held in Mönchengladbach. Here is my report of the track competitions of the event.

German Athletics Nationals U18/U23 2024 – Day 2 Track Events
Saturday was the day of the 100m sprint races. The competition was held with heats, semifinals and finals and overall had 34 races on that day, including a replacement race for Veronika Miller (LG Region Landshut), who got blocked in her heat and qualified for the semis in her individual under 23 “time trial”. Jakob Kemminer (TSV Ochenbruck, U18, 10.53 sec) and Chidiera Onuoha (ASV Cologne, U23, 10.28 sec) were finally victorious on the male side. The young ladies crowned Lena Anochili (Hamburger SV, 11.56 sec) and Nele Jawrowski (VfL Wolfsburg, U23, 11.37 sec) as their fastest runners.
The first finals of the day on the track were the 400m hurdles races. Sebastian Schuch (Dresdener SC, U18, 52.49 sec) and Owe Fischer-Breiholz (Schweriner SC, U23, 51.15 sec) crossed the finish line first. The fastest female runners were Lynn Pöppelmann (TuS Cologne rrh., U18, 60.10 sec) and Yasmin Amaadacho (Garbsener SC, U23, 58.26 sec). Thereafter, Mönchengladbach determined the finalists for the 800m and 400m races in all categories. The closing competitions on the track were 1500m races. The under 18 races were semifinals, determining the Sunday finalists. The under 23 athletes went for the golden medal already. Olivia Gürth (Silverlauf Trier) won in a time of 4:36.59 min, while Tim Kalies (Braunschweiger Laufclub) was the fastest in a close men race (3:52.46 min).
