Flyctory.com Pros

  • Very characteristic song
  • Two significantly better songs at the end of the EP

As part of the 1st August 2025 music reviews, I feature Laura Groves the first time on Flyctory.com. On that day, she has released her new EP Yes. Here is my review of the four track publication.

Laura Groves – About The Artist

Laura Groves is a 1987-born British artist, who is originally from Shipley in West Yorkshire. Her music is a mixture of alternative pop, soul and folk. So far, she released two albums. Between her debut album Blue Roses (2009) and Radio Red (2023), there is a time span of fourteen years, though. She still released her first album under the alias Blue Roses, though. Between 2009 and 2020, she released five EPs, though. Thus, Yes is her sixth extended play overall.

Laura Groves – Yes – Track by Track

The four track EP lasts 17 minutes there.

1. Yes

Laura Groves released the opener Yes just in the week before the EP release. The song, which is also the title track of the album, in a modern, atmospheric pop track, driven by the fine voice of the English artist. The second half of it feels significantly more present to me.

2. Deep Blue

Deep Blue has been the first song shared from this EP. Compared to the opener, the song is more rhythmic. Still, its dreaming, intense atmosphere is the key signature of this listen. If you like synth pop with an alternative vibes, you might like that one. The very agile melodic side distracts me too much from listening to Groves’ voice.

3. Be There

I have to admit that I enjoy the previously unreleased tracks better than the feature singles. This set starts with Be There. The song does have the dream-pop signature, but feels more fluent, using less distortion and distracting twists and turns. This allows you to focus on the miraculous vibes from Groves’ voice.

4. Heavy Entertainment

The EP Yes is a brief listen. After just four songs, the story is over already. The chucker-out Heavy Entertainment thereby leans stronger towards pop and has a very nice dramatic plot, which can nicely develop over 4:46 minutes. The EP closes with its best listen in my point of view.

Laura Groves – Yes – My View

The beginning of Yes felt too experimental and virtuous to me. The more, Laura Grove pleases me with Be There and Heavy Entertainment. Regardless which songs you finally prefer, this release does have a very strong character.

Favorite Song: Heavy Entertainment
