Flyctory.com Pros

  • Nice indie pop debut
  • Good songs with interesting plots

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Just one new track

A reflection about identity, metal health and the strife of the generation between millenials and Gen Z – that’s how the press kit describes the debut EP by German artist INSA. She released Retrospect on 25th April 2025. I had a listen and share my thoughts with you.

INSA – About The Artist

Insa (which is simply the first name of the artist) is an indie pop artist, who is based in Hamburg. She is originally from Soltau between Hamburg and Hanover. Unfortunately, I have limited bio information about her. New Romantics, which is opening the Retrospect EP, has been her debut single. It has been released in October 2024.

INSA – Retrospect – Track by Track

The five track EP lasts 15 minutes.

1. New Romantics

INSA’s debut EP is – somehow unfortunately – a characteristic debut release in regards of new songs. Four of the five tracks have already been released beforehand, starting with her debut single. I quoted the press kit in the introduction – these words perfectly fit to New Romantics. Struggle and melancholy are feelings the young German artist is clearly giving with this song. The atmosphere is catching. Thus, I really like this one.

2. Keep Me Guessing

Keep Me Guessing starts slowly. Even though the arrangement of the song gets wider, it has a very direct and personal atmosphere. Here and there, there are some more emotional moments. The fine voice of INSA is overall leading to a beautiful flow. Towards the end, the song is becoming more energetic.

3. Bunnies

With just over two minutes, Bunnies is the shortest episode of Retrospect. The sound is majorly defined by light guitar play and some string elements. The song feels rather narrative, which leads to a certain singer-songwriter touch. And then, suddenly the guitars play the more intense chords. If you give this song a chance, you do have a good time with it.

4. Retrospect

Released in March 2025, the title track of the EP has been the last song shared beforehand. The song reminds of the melodic width of New Romantics, but comes with fine melodic elements. I like the plot defined by INSA and her team.

5. What If

What If I make it is the key question of the last song – which is also the only really new one. I feel it is the best track of this debut release. The song is very present and comes with a nice melodic structure. Apart from that, it closes the set of songs with some optimistic view as well.

INSA – Retrospect – My View

I like this complexity and the wise structures of the songs in Retrospect. INSA presents an interesting set of five songs, which feel very worth listening. I am definitely looking forward to more tunes from the Northern German lady – let’s see how this musical journey is developing.
