After I had a country and country rock block the weekend before, it is time to add some harder tunes in my 30th August 2024 review. The band who is serving that purpose is Rezet, who release their self-titled album at that day. Here are my thoughts about the record by the trash metal band.

 

Rezet – About The Artists

Rezet is a German speed and thrash metal band. They have already been founded in 2003 by Richard Richy Wagner (guitar, vocals) and Thorben Schulz, who is not a band member any more. The current additional band members re Nikolay Atanasov (lead guitar), Lorenz Kandolf (bass) and Bastian Santen (drums). In 2008, the band had its first major release with the EP Toxic Avenger. So far, there are five Rezet albums, the latest one being Truth in Between (2021). In 2022, the band released the EP New World Murder.

 

Rezet – Rezet – Track by Track

The twelve track album lasts 48 minutes.

1. Opus 1984.2

The first track of the album is a 52 second piano intro.. A touch of classical music – but I promise, Rezet are already warming up their guitars.

2. Time To Die

After the calm entry, the Germans are rocking with full force. The guitar riffs are as hammering as the drumming performance. This is high speed metal – and a lot of fun. However, the song is not just a speed trial in instrumental mastering, it also shows some really nice melodic parts.

3. Unholy Grail

If you like Megadeth, you will love this one as well. Unholy Grail is a bit more melodic than the predecessor, but still comes with a stormy rhythm and speed. The chorus is surprisingly well-suited for a sing-a-long. Rezet is really fun so far.

4. Duck & Cover

The second song on Rezet, which has already been shared with the fans, is Duck & Cover. The song is darker and has a dystopic touch. The slower speed of the song underlines the thrash style and makes the song feel majestic. Don’t be afraid while listening to this one.

5. Burning Prophets

With Burning Prophets, the band is getting back to speed. The song opens with a rather long instrumental part. In general, Ricky Wagners voice gets its presence on Rezet, but he also steps back from the microphone and allows focusing on the instrumental talent of himself and his bandmates. Especially in this song, this leads to an interesting and attractive listen.

6. Together Apart

Together Apart is the longest song of the album. The beginning of the six minute suggest that this one will turn out being a ballad. The song is staying at an average and feels like an emotional song, which also accepts bowling alongside the band. Definitely a nice one for the heartwarming section of the metalhead community.

7. Prisoner Of Fate

After this emotional slow-down, Rezet feels an urgent need for speed again. They turn up the amps and fly over the strings of their guitars. The song is not as some tracks of the first half of the album, but the style stays remarkable. Nice one.

8. Killing Spree

After a short instrumental intro, Wagner is screaming at the beginning of Killing Spree. The song is more moderate on the tempo and force side. However, the fast riffs drive the song and lead to that magical metal feeling. For the chorus, the thrust lever is pushed more towards its limits.

9. Atmosfear

Rezet does offer some surprising elements on their 2024 album. The first moments of Atmosfear are part of that list, when the song is kicking off with choir-alike vocals. There are also some electronic elements, which finally turn this ninth track into a rather nice to digest listen. However, that ease also makes it feel a bit more random.

10. True As Lies (Feat. Lips)

Two guitar players are sometimes just not enough. Thus, why not having a third one? For the tenth track True As Lies, Rezet even cooperates with a rather prominent one. Steve Barry Kudlow, better known as Lips and singer and lead guitarist of Anvil. This leads to more vituosity and melodic excellence in this listen. The key downside of the song is unfortunately that it isover after 2:32 minutes already.

11. World War Z

Oh, that sounds like a dark and pessimistic outlook on human history. Similar to its predecessor, the song has a nice rocking heart. The vocals however, leave no doubt that this album is right in the bulls eye of metal land. The song definitely creates four very enjoyable minutes of listening.

12. Into The Abyss

Rezet kicks us out of their 2024 album with Into The Abyss. The closing track is just two seconds shorter than Together Apart – but that’s all about the similarities between the two songs. The band wants to present their musical excellence a final time – and they do so in style. It takes almost 90 seconds until Wagner is taking over his singer duties, the song is a beautiful one for guitar fans. And with vocals added to this metal piece, it does not get worse, indeed. And if you are brave, you will run into some flamenco tunes in the middle of the song – you won’t have this sound too often in metal.

Okay, guys. I send a Dankeschön to the North of my home country. Listening to Rezet was indeed a lot of fun. The album is straight and creates a nice, fluent listen. Nonetheless, it is not boring at all, as there are sprinkles of new styles and ideas throughout the whole release. Thus, I absolutely like this one.
