Hall of Fame Open 2024 – MS R2 M. Giron (USA) – B. Paire (FRA) 4-6 7-5 6-4

After the Indians Chandrasekar and Kadhe advanced to the doubles’ semifinals, I headed straight to Center Court of the Infosys Hall of Fame Open 2024. US-American Marcos Giron and French Benoit Paire faced there in the second match of the day. Their match has been postponed right after Paire had won the first set of this last Round of 16 / Round 2 match, due to light issues. I at least wanted to have some snaps of this one.

Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Giron vs. Paire – Match Report

The first games after the re-start of the match went rather straight. However, while Paire felt very confident at serve initially, a struggled in the fifth game. Two double fault were a too heavy burden on the former Top 20 player. Marcos Giron was back in business with that break. However, an amazing 26 shot rally at break point in the eighth match finally ended up better for the French. He tied the score to 4-4. A 50% first serve in that set was too weak in that part of the match and thus lead to another double break point at the score of 5-5. The US-American converted the first one and thus cruised into the third set, winning the second one with 7-5.

Paire had the perfect kick-off into the third set. Giron could not hold his serve, finally by committing a double fault in the second game. Both players had a bit of trouble at own serve thereafter. While Paire took the 3-0 lead at own serve, second-seeded Giron first had to save two additional break points before finally winning his first game of the second set. However, the match, which partially felt like clay court tennis on grass, always had some opportunities in stock. The US-American finally broke Paire’s serve in the seventh game, His own game at serve went through deuce again, while Paire ran into trouble again. When Marcos Giron converted the fourth break point in the ninth game, he was up to serve for the match – and won it after a rather straight game.
