  • Nice nostalgic style
  • Catching funk elements

First Move – that’s the debut album of the SpanishGerman duo Luna Soul. They mix funk, soul and pop music elements in the record, which has been released on 11th April 2025. I really liked their sound and gave this 11th April 2025 a deeper listen.

Luna Soul – About The Artists

Luna Soul consists of German artist Lisa Michele Lietz and Spanish Jordi Amau Rubio. Lietz was born in Schwerin in Northern Germany, while Rubio is originally from Barcelona. He left Spain in teenage years to pursue a career as a professional dancer. They work together since 2019. YouTube also features a song from that time, Higher, which I could not find on Spotify. So far, they had successful tours through Germany, France and Spain.

Luna Soul – First Move – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 38 minutes.

1. Grow

The album opens with Grow. The song has a nice groove and has a very funky style. Definitely a nice choice to kick off the album with that one – the vibes of the song are catching you and make you move to its rhythm.

2. No Way Home

The rhythmic beat continues with No Way Home. Even though the track also has some funk flavor, the pop style and a nice melodic flow rather define the second track. On the instrumental side, especially the bass section is striking.

3. 1979

1979 is one of two songs already released before the album. On their homepage, Luna Soul are stating that they are combining nostalgic flair with modern catchy melodies and driving rhythms. I feel that these words perfectly describe the sound of this track. If you are a 1980’s kid, you will definitely love that sound.

4. Lights Out

The three minute song Lights Out is a treat for funk lovers. The groovy and rhythmic track almost forces you to dance, the slight touch of soul turns the fourth track of First Move into a very special listen. I really like this one.

5. City Lights

After this rhythmic firework, the single release City Lights is slowing the pace of the record a bit. It rather shows an emotional side of Luna Soul – even though the drums are still inviting you to a (slower) dance. This arrangement leads to a nice focus on Lisa Michele Leitz’s voice.

6. Hold On

The instrumental part of Hold On is very present, partially even drowning the vocals a bit too much. The short choir elements lead to a special listen. Nonetheless, it is not on the top of my favorites of this album.

7. Winterdance

In the seventh song, Luna Soul take you on a Winterdance. The song features the typical groove of the band, coming with nostalgic-style keyboard elements. Its slower style combined with the vocals leads to a slightly cheesy listen. That’s just what you need in the colder season, don’t you?

8. Obvious

Obvious is another song, which could have been a successful listen in the early 1980’s. Again, you listen to the Spanish-German duo and simply have to smile and dance. I’m sure their upcoming tour will be fun.

9. Just For Us Tonight

Being close to five minutes long, Just For Us Tonight is the most extensive song of the album. The penultimate one is a slower song, which nicely underlines the influence of soul music on Luna Soul. I really enjoy the warmth and romance spread by this track.

10. One More Night

First Move closes with this mid-tempo track, which feels like a nice median and sum-up for the duo’s debut record. After the romantic listen before, you also don’t want to dance too hard any more. Nice one.

Luna Soul – First Move – My View

First Move is a really nice first move by the duo. The music is nice and makes you move and feel happy. Ain’t that what you need from time to time? I really enjoyed listening to these guys – and I am sure they are fun on stage with their nostalgic, funky style.
