After I missed two early December 2024 country music concerts in Cologne due to trips to Switzerland and the United States, I was happy to be back at another Sound of Nashville show two weeks before Christmas. On 10th December 2024, Kameron Marlowe entered Die Kantine, supported by Laci Kaye Booth. Here is my concert review.

Die Kantine – About The Venue
The show was originally scheduled to be held at the Yard Club, the smaller of the two indoor venues of Die Kantine in Cologne. This one has a capacity of some 200 people, and it soon proofed being too small for this show. Finally, Kameron Marlowe welcomed some 700 people in the main venue of Die Kantine. Both clubs are located in a commercial area in Northern Cologne. It is quite close to the A1 motorway and thus rather easy to reach by car, even though parking may be tricky if there is an event in the major venue as well. By public transport, the easiest option is Wilhelm-Sollmann-Str., which is served by trams 12 and 15 as well as bus 122. From the tram / bus stop, it is a some five minute walk.
Kameron Marlowe – About The Artists
Kameron Marlowe is a US-American country musician. He was born on 20th June 1997 in Kannapolis in North Carolina. Marlowe became famous as a contestant of the 2018 season of The Voice on NBC. This was a key factor that the 2021 single Giving You Up became an RIAA platinum record. His 2022 debut album We Were Cowboys peaked 22nd in the US Country charts. In May 2024, he released his sophomore album, Keepin’ the Lights On. The album received the full 5.0 rating points in my review. His 2020 EP also received a very good review.
In Cologne, Marlowe was supported by Laci Kaye Booth. If you would just look at social media numbers, the Texas-origin artist is almost as successful in regards of Instagram followers. She debuted with the album Something New in 2017. The Greater Houston artist released a self-titled album in 2021.
Kameron Marlowe – The Show
Laci Kaye Booth stepped on stage, just with her guitar, right on time at 20:00. Her 35 minute set contained nine songs, starting with Since 1995 and Pretty Little Pistol. The acoustic style especially suited songs like her third one, The Loneliest Girl in the World, which has also been on her recent acoustic EP. Cologne listened in a dignified manner to the voice of the US female country artist, who filled the rather large venue with her voice. Even minor voices like a cough in the cold season felt disturbing. The longer the set took, the more intense was the applause by the German crowd after her songs. Especially her last two songs, True Love and I let him love me felt very intense and touching, before she farewelled Cologne with the Creedence Clearwater Revivial classic Have You Ever Seen the Rain? That one did not lead to a huge farewell applause, but also to a sing-a-long with the audience beforehand.
A Free Tequila Shot at Kameron Marlowe’s Show
Right in time at 21:00, the lights at Die Kantine went down again and the speakers played the Dire Straits’ hit Money for nothing. Shortly thereafter, Kameron Marlowe and his band stepped on stage, not just bringing some instruments with them, but also a cooler, which was placed on the corner of the stage. They started the set with the opener of their recent album Keepin’ The Lights On, 911, followed by Over Now and Nothin’ Slowin’ Us Down. You felt that the wide band setup spread a lot of energy. And indeed, Cologne welcomed Marlowe at his first-ever German show with a lot of love. When Marlowe played Tequila Talkin’ towards the middle of his show, he even shared a shot with one of the fans – the others were raising their Kölsch beer glasses instead.
The first peak of the show was definitely Marlowe’s very initial single release, the 2019 Giving You Up. The German crowd did not only raise their cell phones for some video memories, but also sang with the band, which impressed and pushed them even more. A few songs later, Marlowe stated Let’s turn this place into a Nashville Honky-Tonk – and went for the 2004 Big & Rich classic Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) – which turned Die Kantine into a country-rock madhouse. But also a more intimate setting like at the acoustic Keepin’ The Lights On or the slowed down cover of Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer worked perfectly in Cologne and paved the way for a successful ending of the more than 90 minute show. The encore consisted of two of his newer songs, Broke Down in a Truck and Strangers and people cheering for the artist until the end of the show.

Kameron Marlowe – My View
Kameron Marlowe and Laci Kaye Booth showed two very different sets. First, there was the fine, intimate performance of the support act, whose voice magically filled Die Kantine. It was simply beautiful listening to her songs and stories. Kameron Marlowe, playing with a full band, was more forceful and thus lead to a country rock party, but still had its fine elements as well. Overall, this has been a lovely evening towards the end of the German country music concert year in 2024 – and leads to a promising outlook towards 2025.
