German artist Mense traveled through Spain for half a year. It was only himself, his wife and his dog Angus, who joined him on this camper trip. The result is his new album, which he is sharing on 6th December 2024. Here is my review of Spanish Night.
Mense – About The Artist
Mense is the artist name of the Northern German artist Yannick Mense, who is nowadays living in Lower Saxony, West of Hamburg. He became regionally well-known with the rock band Axid Rain, after he started to play the guitar in teenage years. He is also active in some cover bands. In 2020, he decided to go for solo projects. By the Riverside has been his first single, released in 2021. The same year, he also shared his debut album Joy In Solitude. Spanish Night is his sophomore album. His music is a rock sound with clear country music influences.
Mense – Spanish Night – Track by Track
The eleven track album lasts 39 minutes.
1. Except you
Spanish Night kicks off with this groovy and rocking track. The characteristic voice by the artist nicely fits to the rock’n’roll vibes and leads to a catching and promising beginning of this listen.
2. Hold on
The guitar riffs of Hold On feel richer than in the opener and drive the rather uptempo song. The second track is another nice Americana rocker, the groove rather makes it lean towards blues rock. The chorus is short, but is therefor very straight and leads to a good sing-a-long potential on upcoming shows.
3. Spanish Night
The title track of the album is the only song which has already been released before the album. The song is a very pop-ish song with a nice melody and a beautiful flow, majorly driven by the acoustic guitar. Feels like a great add to your playlist for the next summer road trip – what about going to Spain?
4. Then I ever did before
Then I ever did before significantly increases the speed of the Spanish Night. If you add this song to the road trip playlist away, be aware that you don’t speed. The guitar style indeed feels to have some Iberian influences. Really nice, energetic listen.
5. No Matter
Especially after the speedy experience before, No Matter feels wistful and heavy. But the more you listen into this fifth song, the more you discover its beauty. Finally, the fifth track of the album turns out to be a good country rocker with an easy, catching melody and a nice (but short) guitar solo.
6. My only true sweet love
The title already suggests: the following four minutes will be rather emotional. There is just light guitar play and the fiddle, which drive the slow track for most of the time. A very fine song, which in its later parts also has some very fine instrumental elements.
7. Fallin’ down
The two longest songs on Spanish Night are one after another. Fallin’ Down is thereby taking almost five minutes. It is a really nice track with a good plot and a good balance of vocal and instrumental elements. Definitely one of my favorite listens on the album.
8. Next Life
Next Life is a playful and melodic song with good vibes and a touch of folk music. The song makes you move to its rhythm and sing-a-long with Mense. There is a short surprise towards the end of the song, which briefly boosts the energy level.
9. Rodeo
Rodeo – that sounds like a country music track. And, indeed, the ninth song on Spanish Night demands for hard hats and boots. Thereby, the song has a good speed and an intense rhythm, so that it is definitely fun to enjoy this track with the German artist.
10. Friendzone
The Friendzone is decreasing the speed of the album again. The guitar is joined by a present piano. I could imagine that this is a great one towards the end of the concert, swaying to the rhythm of this nostalgic listen with some friends in your arms.
11. Autumn
It is almost winter when Mense is releasing Spanish Night. Nonetheless, the album closes with the Autumn, which is one of the nicest melodies of the album. Quite emotional, but a heartwarming listen. I like it!

Mense – Spanish Night – My View
Spanish Night is a really well-recorded album. The album has a nice flow and plot, the individual songs are good as well and have very individual styles. Thus, if you like Americana and rock music, I definitely recommend a listen.
Favorite Song: Fallin’ Down
