Zandi Holup started her set right in time at 20:00. She played for 30 minutes, presenting seven songs. The opener was Gas Station Flowers. Most if the other tracks have been previously unreleased, but will be part of her upcoming album. For example, she shared Cowgirls Don’t Cry or Mary Jane. Thereby, Holup mostly impressed with her characteristic voice and lovely storytelling. After her closing song Go Find Less, many fans made their way to the merchandise stand, chatted with her, bough merchandise or took photos with the artist.
Stephen Wilson Jr. started his set at 21:00. His set was about 1:45 minutes, starting with Calico Creek. Naming Holup’s voice characteristic already, Stephen Wilson Jr. is definitely unique. The setlist was set up around his debut album, of coure including Father’s Son rather in the middle of the set. A fans’ favorite was Year to Be Young 1994, which he played right beforehand. Wilson Jr. took a lot of time telling stories about the 15 songs performed. Another key moment of the concert was when he played Nirvana’s Something in the Way. Stephen Wilson Jr. – My View
Club Volta hosted two amazing songwriters and storytellers, who are on the other hand so different. The enthusiastic Holup fascinating with her lovely writes and the rocking, rough, Southern accent Wilson Jr. spread different kinds of country music magic and lead to a very enjoyable night in Germany, before the tour heads to its last stop in Berlin.
