I really like the museums in Sharjah. One of the museums I visited in the city right North of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is the Sharjah Heritage Museum. It is located in the restored home of Saeed Al Taweel Al Shamsi, a pearl merchant  Here is my review.

Sharjah Heritage Museum – Location & Admission

Sharjah Heritage Museum is located in the old town district of Sharjah, right opposite to the Al-Arsah suoq. Several other attractions, like the amazing Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, are in walking distance. Parking is a bit of tricky, but you should be able find a spot. Alternatively, taxi or bus services are a good way to get there.

The museum is opening daily from 8:00 to 20:00. On Fridays, the museum already closes at 16:00. There are reduced opening times during Ramadan, Saturday to Thursday only, 9:00 to 14:00. Adult admission is 10 AED, roughly 2.50 EUR. You can also buy the Heritage Ticket, which also includes the Al Eslah School Museum, the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, the Al Hisn Fort and Bait Al Naboodah, for 20 AED.

Sharjah Heritage Museum – The Visit

The museum acts as a museum of local history. Based on the story of the pearl trader, it reflects the Emirati authentic culture from different aspects. For example, there are galleries focusing on the Landscape, Lifestyle or Traditional Knowledge of the local people. As in all Sharjah Museums, the exhibition is documented in Arabic and English.

Apart from signs, which explain the traditional culture, the museum is loaded with original items. From clothing to jewelry, from original daggers to an overview of traditional spices, you find a lot about the lifestyle and history of the United Arab Emirates. The fort-alike museum building thereby features several rooms, which are really fun exploring. Even though the building is a restoration, it is also very interesting to explore its structure or to hang out in its patio.

Sharjah Heritage Museum – Services

The staff at the museum is really friendly. There is a small gift shop at the reception.

Sharjah Heritage Museum – My View

The museum feels compact at first sight, but it is doing an excellent job. From stories to exhibited items, you learn a lot about the culture in the region. I absolutely recommend having a visit there if you visit this district of the U.A.E. city.
