The easy, convenient and typically also rather affordable style of an ibis hotel meets some boutique touch. That’s about roughly how Accor is defining their ibis styles brand. I haven’t featured too many of them in this blog, namely three (London ExCeL, Konstanz and Amsterdam Central Station, if you want to look it up). The more I was happy to do another of their outlets during a short business trip to Switzerland. Here is my review of the ibis styles Zurich City Center.

 

ibis styles Zurich City Center – Location

ibis styles is sharing the building with an Adagio apart hotel (I introduced you recently to Adagio Bremen, which I loved). The hotel is just a five minute (uphill) walk away from Zurich Main Station. Alternatively, you dan take the tram (lines 8, 11, 14, 17) or the 46 bus to Stampfenbachplatz. The hotel is located close to the Niederdorf or simply Dörfi, which features a wide range of places to have a drink or a bite. The area around main station also features several supermarkets. There are restaurants close to the hotel as well.

Going to Zurich by car is not too challenging, but parking fees are rather high. The hotel offers a parking garage. Parking per night is 32 CHF, which is reasonable in Zurich relations.

 

ibis styles Zurich City Center – Room

I had a one night stay in Zurich in June 2023. The flexible rate, including breakfast, was 214.15 CH, roughly 220 EUR at the time of travel. The price was comparably high due to a trade fair. The room was a bit of compact, but overall quite nice. After entering the room, you more or less were right in the bathroom section with a shower and a sink ad a separate room for the toilet. As this is also the most spacious area, you likely also put your luggage there. I was a bit afraid that the floor might get wet while showering, but it worked very fine. There was a liquid soap / body gel and shampoo dispenser at the sink as well as in the shower.

The bathroom section is divided by a cupboard to the sleeping and living area. In addition, you can also use curtains for privacy, if you need that. The cupboard was actually quite useful, especially as storage next to the bed is limited. On both sides of the bed there were Swiss and European style power outlets. The bed was good. However, the room does not feature a full work desk, but a movable table, which works fine if you want to work from the bed or from the chair provided.

 

ibis styles Zurich City Center – Breakfast

The breakfast is provided in the beautiful lobby of the hotel. Even though the breakfast buffet feels to be a bit of small for two major hotels, they actually provide a nice range of items. The quality of the dishes was really good. However, there was one exception: even though I was at breakfast at around 6:45, some fifteen minutes after opening, the scrambled eggs were terribly crispy and dry – one of the worst ones I ever had. Overall, the service worked very well there.

However, while I was eating, one of the employees cleaned the table next to me and (which is of course fine) sprayed the whole table with a cleaner. Unfortunately, there was still the bowl with milk and sugar on it – that’s absolutely unacceptable.The same area is also used for dining and as the hotel bar.

 

ibis styles Zurich City Center – Service

Overall, the staff was really nice. WiFi worked well. ibis styles does have a 24 hour gym. Unfortunately, I have no idea where exactly it is located, so that I could not include it in my review.

 

ibis styles Zurich City Center – My View

The ibis styles Zurich CIty Center offers nice, compact accommodation. The lounge area is a beauty. On the negative side, there is the gym, for which I could not find any location, and the usage of cleansing products on food. Especially when the price is right, the ibis styles is a really nice option for a city break.

 

As the review has been part of a business trip for my employee, I have been able to reimburse the travel expenses to that company, SCOR SE. This did not in any way influence my review.
