Flyctory.com Pros

  • Nice debut showcase by the US-German artist
  • Characteristic, emotional country-pop style

In my September 2024 Spotlight interview, I already introduced you to Frances Darling. On 7th February 2025, the German-US-American artist is releasing her debut EPTrue Blue Heroine. Of course, I was curious about it and had a listen. Here is my review.

Frances Darling – About The Artist

Frances Darling is a truly international artist. She was born in Maryland. Apart from Germany and the United States, the former biologist also has Indian roots. Nowadays, she is living in Berlin in order to pursue a career in music. In 2024, she released her first two songs, All Talk and Flight Risk. You learn quite a lot about her in the Spotlight interview below.

Frances Darling – True-Blue Heroine – Track by Track

The five track EP lasts 16 minutes.

1. Bottle Blonde Ambition

The EP starts with two previously unreleased tracks. The first one is Bottle Blonde Ambition. The song is really a beauty. Frances’ warm voice is leading you through the song, which is coming with limited, a bit of jazzy instrumentation. Nonetheless, there are country vibes in it. A special listen, but I really enjoy it.

2. True-Blue

The second track of True-Blue Heroine is True-Blue, i.e. somewhat of the title track. Frances Darling is naming Kacey Musgraves as one of her idols – and you definitely feel that influence in this song. There is a fine, dreaming atmosphere. However, Frances again manages to have her own style and make her music sound like a country music track. A lovely one.

3. Flight Risk

Flight Risk was a key topic in the interview I had with Frances in 2024. The song is a country-pop track with a lovely flow. The vocals of the artist sound very fine and fragile in here. A gorgeous one.

4. All Talk (Acoustic)

All Talk has been the debut single of Frances. For her first EP, she is also presenting an acoustic version of the song. This one works out absolutely nicely and gives an even stronger personal and intimate touch. Really nice.

5. All Talk

In contrast to the acoustic version before, the single version of All Talk has more country-pop vibes. Again, it reminds me of “Spacey Kacey”. Over time, the song is gaining some speed and energy.

Frances Darling – True-Blue Heroine – My View

True-Blue Heroine is a beautiful first major step for Frances Darling into the (European) world of country music. The German-American artist presents her very own style, even though you can feel certain influences. I really enjoyed listening to her dreaming, personal style of presenting music.

Favorite Song: True-Blue
