One of the bands I feature in my 9th August 2024 album reviews is Siamese. Their Elements is already the seventh album of the band. I received the long-play before its publication date and share my thoughts with you.

 

Siamese – About The Artists

Siamese is an alternative rock and alternative metal band from Denmark. They have been founded in Copenhagen in 2011 as Siamese Fighting Fish. The Danes released two albums under that band name before they shortened it to Siamese. There have been four additional albums under that name, the last one being the 2021 one, Home. The current lineup is Mirza Radonjica (vocals), Andreas Krüger (guitar), Mark Nommesen (bass), Christian Hjort Lauritzen (violin) and Joakim Stilling (drums). They typically mix rock elements with blues, RnB and electronic ones.

 

Siamese – Elements – Track by Track

The ten song album lasts 36 minutes.

1. The Shape of Water (feat. Ten56)

The first song is the first of two Danish-French collaborations of the album. Ten56 is a French metalcore band, which definitely leave a heavy mark in this track. The album starts with a lot of power and a nice sound with an industrial touch.

2. Vertigo

The music videos in the post already tell you: a definite downside of the album is that seven songs have already been published already. The album kicks off with six of them. Without a guest band, Siamese sound a bit calmer and more gentle. Nonetheless, Vertigo comes with a nice sound. A nice alternative rocker with a good groove and a nice use of electronic elements.

3. Predator

In the context of the album, Predator almost starts like a ballad. With the chorus latest, the band is presenting a powerful, uptempo rocker which nicely fits into the context of the other songs. Metal fans will like the present shouting elements.

4. Chemistry

The fourth track is coming with a nice balance of rough rocking parts and very melodic parts. This leads to a very balanced, modern listen. The chorus is very catching as well, so that Chemistry is definitely worth listening to.

5. Through My Head (feat. ReSolve)

The other collaboration between Siamese and a guest band on Elements is this one. The Danish rockers collaborate with ReSolve, a metalcore and post-hardcore band from France. This leads to another song with strong industrial metal vibes, paired very present vocals and the typical elements of other songs on this publication. Nice one.

6. On Fire

Siamese is On Fire on the sixth song of the album. Again, after a slower start, the guitars are pushing towards full power. The song comes with drum machine-alike rhythm elements and other synth sounds. Overall, this feels like a mixture of metal and dancefloor sounds. Very interesting blending, indeed.

7. God Is A Woman

The first previously unreleased song of Elements is God Is A Woman. Hammering riffs alter with melodic keyboard parts. The key phrase of the chorus is very present in this one and overall leads to a smooth listen.

8. Utopia

Utopia is a very rhythmic song on the album. This makes the song rather lead towards (alternative) rock than towards the more metal-alike songs. It also adds a certain level of ease to the publication.

9. Hurricane

The second last song of Elements, has in fact been the last single release of the album. The song is the only one which makes it to the four minute mark (even though other listens are not that much shorter). The song kicks off rather gentle and melodic, but then also surprises with shouting parts.

10. This Is Not A Song

This Is Not A Song – and, in fact, the last 2:35 minutes start with a news or advertisement-alike vocal section. Quite soon, the band is joining in and adding gutars, drums, but also vocals to the female announcer. A very interesting combination, even though I would not put it on my list of favorites.

Siamese – Elements – Track by Track

The Danish band defines a very unique and interesting sound. There are a few parts of Elements, where I feel that the sound is a bit too experimental. Overall, though, the album is a nice listen, especially if you lean towards metalcore and related genres.
