Spotlight – Flyctory.com meets Brittany Brodie (May 2025)

With more than seven years of Flyctory.com, there are some artists who I featured multiple times already in my Spotlight interview series. In March 2024, for example, I had another chat with Frank Renfordt of The Cumberland River Project. I am now very glad to share some new thoughts from Brittany Brodie with you. In January 2022, I already introduced you to the Canadian artist Brittany Brodie and her life between Ontario, Nashville and Scotland. Also due to some new song releases and private life changes, it was absolutely time to update with her. Three years later, here is another chat with the lovely artist.

FLYC: In January 2025, you released a new single, Cowboys. What is the song about?

Brittany: Cowboys was written a couple years ago and I decided it was time to put out a fun, feel good song about a night out on the town and being surrounded by Cowboys and what that looks like. I love the opening lyrics Dwight Yoakam denim. I grew up singing and two stepping, dancing to traditional country music and had an F150, the song definitely pays homage to some of my upbringing.

FLYC: Are you happy with the feedback and response from the audience and critics about it?

Brittany: People really love this song. They keep telling me it’s so fun to sing along to, work out to and love getting up to dance.

FLYC: In June 2024, you had another single release, Like A Woman Should. What made you write – and release that song in 2024?

Brittany: I just thought it was a nice change of pace from what I was putting out. I just want to clarify Like A Woman Should is absolutely NOT saying what a woman should do, it’s what she would want to do when she is in love and wants to do nice things for her man. I believe nobody can love like a woman should. It’s just a love song.

FLYC: In fall 2022, you married your husband Ewan Barker in Scotland. How helpful is it for you and your music to have a musician by your side?

Brittany: Thank you for mentioning that. Ewan is such a phenomenal musician. I am so lucky to have him by my side in life and in music. I highly recommend everyone get married in Scotland, it’s an absolute dream come true. And if you can be lucky enough to marry a Scot even better. It’s the most incredible thing to have music in common as it’s running through my veins and only another musician can fully comprehend that sentiment.

FLYC: How did the marriage change your life in general?

Brittany: I no longer just have myself to worry about. I have my husband to think about with everything that I do and how it will affect us as a team. I believe you should be so happy with yourself as an individual and then when you have your partner they just add to that and make it even better. It is so lovely having a built in best friend.

FLYC: It’s now already fifteen years since you released your first single, Falling. What advice would you give your fifteen year younger you from a nowadays perspective?

Brittany: I would say don’t be afraid to release your own songs and speak up and know that you can co-produce and still listen, learn, and grow. I have been doing this since I was eight years old so it’s all I know.

FLYC: And what would the 15 year younger Brittany say about Cowboys?

Brittany: Ha! She would say do not get rid of the F150. You will regret it everyday of your life.

FLYC: Is there any song you released, which you feel has been underrated or too less appreciated?

Brittany: I feel that with a lot of what I do. It’s the nature of the beast being an independent artist and songwriter. I try not to dwell on it and keep on keepin’ on.

FLYC: If you would name three things, which you would like to achieve as a musician – what would that be?

Brittany: A great artist/songwriter deal. Performing on and becoming a Member of the Grand Ole Opry. Successful tours globally.

FLYC: Looking forward. What is your year 2025 looking like? Will there be new music, some interesting gigs and tours?

Brittany: I do have more new music coming out this year, starting with this summer. You will hear it here first. My next single is called Dead or Taken. All show dates will be posted on my socials.

FLYC: Finally, as a Nashville local: CMA Fest is coming up in a couple of weeks. How are you going to spend the crazy country music days in Music City?

Brittany: I love CMA Fest. I have so many friends performing, so I will do my best to make it to as many of their shows as I can. I too will have some dates popping up.
