Flyctory.com Pros

  • Nice, very entertaining soft rock album with funky elements
  • Nostalgic feelings and great harmony / harmonies
  • Fluent listen

I don’t feature soft rock that often. The band Young Gun Silver Fox is one of the established bands of the genre. They already released their first album ten years ago. On 2nd May 2025, they shared their fifth major release, Pleasure. Here is my review.

Young Gun Silver Fox – About The Artists

Young Gun Silver Fox is a soft rock duo from London. It has been founded by British singer-songwriter Andy Platts and US-American multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lee. Platts was already part of the soul-pop band Mamas Gun at that time, while Lee worked in several projects like his Ping Pong Orchestra. In 2015, they released their debut album West End Coast. Their most recent album is the 2022 Ticket To Shangri-La.

Young Gun Silver Fox – Pleasure – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 38 minutes.

1. Stevie & Sly

Pleasure opens with groovy bass lines which spread some funk vibes. If you are a 1970’s or 1980’s kid, you get rather quickly into this track. The nostalgic flow and the soft rock ease continues throughout the song, while the rhythm is catching you and makes you move. There is a slightly outdated feeling in this track, but I love being taken back in time.

2. Born To Dream

In the last weeks before album release, Young Gun Silver Fox released three singles. Born To Dream was the last one, published just a week before the album. The key instrument in here is the keyboard. Andy Platts does a very convincing job on the vocal side. Some decades ago, this song would have come with a huge potential to strike. In the 2020’s, it still somehow feels heartwarming.

3. Late Night Last Train

The block of already released tracks closes with Late Night Last Train. The song has a more emotional and undeniably soppy touch. It is working well as a soundtrack for a close dance as well to listen and enjoy on a late summer evening.

4. Burning Daylight

In songs like Burning Daylight, Young Gun Silver Fox highly profit from the instrumental abilities of their Silver Fox. That’s at least the part of the band name referring to Shawn Lee. The guitar and organ style lead to a jazzy touch, while the vocal section, including the backing vocals, spread the warmth of soul. Even though the 4:24 minute song is the longest of the record, it does not feel lengthy at all. Instead, there are a lot of new elements

5. Holding Back The Fire

While Burning Daylight stroke with a great instrumental arrangement, especially the beginning of Holding Back The Fire focuses on the vocals. The harmonies work well and the gentleness of soft rock creates a beautifully flowing four minute listen. Of course, there are some instrumental features and highlights later in the song.

6. Just For Pleasure

Just For Pleasure is the title track of the duo’s fifth studio album. Again, the listener is welcomed by synth and bass lines. The melody reminds of Earth Wind and Fire. The high vocals may rather remind of other big names of the later 1970’s, though. The song strikes with its nicely running melodies. These Young Gun Silver Fox songs create a lot of harmony, but also define very enjoyable vibes.

7. Put Up Your Dukes

Put Up Your Dukes is the next song on the album. The seventh track comes with a very similar sound. Unfortunately, there are not that many twists and surprising elements. On the one side, this leads to a very easy listen. On the other side, though, it is also less striking in the context of the album.

8. The Greatest Loser

The Greatest Loser starts like a piano ballad. However, with the chorus, the soft and progressive rock vibes get stronger. Nonetheless, the song is one of the key emotional moments of Pleasure.

9. Stealing Time

I already wrote about the undeniable thoughts about Earth, Wind and Fire. They definitely increase while listening to Stealing Time. Thus, if you loved or still love the Chicago-origin band, this song will be really enjoyable. However, if you allow Lee and Platts to catch you with this track, you will have a good time with this one.

10. One Horse Race

One Horse Race closes Pleasure. The nice work on the percussion side spreads some Latin vibes over the funky soft rock atmosphere, which is dominant in the album. The warmth in my listener’s heart stays on until the end of the album.

Young Gun Silver Fox – Pleasure – Track by Track

Maybe, there is some bonus in my review. I am simply a 1980’s kid. I was amazed by this kind of music in my younger years and I still love listening to records like this. However, even a less biased review will enjoy these ten songs, which has some really nice virtuous elements.

Favorite Song: Holding Back The Fire
