Even though I felt rather weak and we had to adopt my travel plans, my wife and I finally decided to go for a trip to Lille in France in November 2024. A very interesting part of the trip was one night at the Hilton Lille, which still underwent some final maintenance upgrades to meet the standards of that class of the Hilton Group. Here is my hotel review of the hotel, which used to be a Crowne Plaza and was labeled as Hotel Lille Euralille in the meantime.

Hilton Lille – Location

Hilton Lille is located in the Euralille district in the French city. It is located right opposite of the Lille Europe train station. Right behind the station, there is the Westfield Euralille shopping mall and an additional train station, Lille-Flandres. The city center of Lille is a some ten minute walk away from the hotel. Most touristic services like a major supermarket, restaurants and other stores can especially be found there as well as in the mall and in the Lille-Flandres station. Lille Europe, however, is rather limited in that regard. Connecting to Stade Pierre-Mauroy / Decathlon Arena, where I watched handball at the Paris 2024 Olympics, is a some 30 minute commute by public transport or 15 to 20 minute drive by car.

The traffic connection of the hotel is really nice. Getting to the area by car can be a bit bothering. There is a public parking garage below the hotel. The daily rate (no in and out) is rather high, though, at 33.50 EUR per day at the time of writing. Walking from the garage to the hotel is a bit of tricky, as signs are missing. Lille Europe is connected by Eurostar, which also allows you to have a train ride to London regularly. Other connections are throughout France, regional as well as domestic. The larger Lille-Flandres station offers regular services throughout France as well. The metro M2 and Lille Tram also connect to Lille Europe.

Hilton Lille – Room

My wife and I had booked one night in late November 2024, Friday to Saturday. The semi-flex, five day cancellation notice, rate for a King Guest Room was 131.46 EUR, including taxes. The room was actually rather large and nice. I enjoyed watching the traffic from there. We weren’t disturbed by the noise of traffic. However, I did not like that the room did not feature a proper work desk. There was just a small round table, which unfortunately did not fit in height to the large sofa provided in the room. Not all room types are displayed with pictures on their website. The rooms with pictures feature an additional chair, which feels to suit the small table on the pictures.

The shower bathroom with a large shower was really nice. There was soap, body lotion and shower amenities in dispensers. We had sufficient space for our toiletries. I personally do not like having the toilet in a separate room without an additional sink, but that’s a rather typical feature in French hotels. The room was obviously rather lately renovated and felt very well maintained. Like the whole room, the bathroom was absolutely clean.

Hilton Lille – Executive Lounge

In a rather small room on reception level, Hilton Lille is also driving an executive lounge. You have to value that new Hilton hotels still drive that lovely service, which is unfortunately more and more fading. The atmosphere in there was fine. There was also a snack service, which started a bit later than the 17:00 announced. Unfortunately, the coffee machine was not working due to maintenance issues (waste water full) and this was also not handled by the bar team, who rarely had a look into the lounge serving it. The snacks provided was fine. I just did not like that one hotel guest felt to have the lounge as an “extended hotel room”, controlling the TV remote control and watching different TV shows in there.

Hilton Lille – Breakfast & Food

The hotel is driving a restaurant, which is used for breakfast and dining. The buffet was actually quite nice and featured some really nice items. Compared to other French places like the Hilton Paris La Defense, the selection was nice. However, the staff at breakfast was not really attentive. You are in general able to have egg dishes like omelettes on demand – we just did not make it as the staff was not that communicative.

As we did not feel like going back to the mall or the city center, my wife and I also went for dinner in the restaurant. The meals were really nice and also had good pricing. Drinks were a bit on the expansive side, though. During dinner, the staff was really nice and friendly. The menu was in French only, though.

Hilton Lille – Service

The reception at Hilton Lille was very friendly. The level of English was good during the entire stay. The hotel website states that it is driving a gym. Unfortunately, it was not signed in the hotel so that I did not have a look into it. WiFi in the hotel worked out well.

Hilton Lille – My View

I really loved the great location of the hotel and would definitely think about booking it again to explore Lille and the region further. Even a day trip to London is doable. The services around are great, while there were service issues at breakfast and in the lounge.
