Sound of Nashville Open Air 2025 (Day 2, 23rd August 2025)

Saturday at the 2025 Sound of Nashville Open Air was a debut. The 2024 edition just had Friday and Sunday show times. Thus, there was a certain focus to me on that day at the Freideck of Die Kantine in Northern Cologne, Germany. Here is my concert report from the country music open air festivals.

This posting comes with 729 major size pictures as part of the concert gallery.

Sound of Nashville Open Air 2025, Day 2 – About The Artists

The Semmel Concerts organizers went for a songwriters’ round to kick off the second day. The stage was shared by Sinead Burgess and Blake O’Connor. I was especially looking forward to Australian Sinead Burgess from Sydney. She released multiple singles, but solely two EPs and her 2018 album Damaged Goods. Her countryman O’Connor is looking back to two albums so far, the latest being the 2023 Finding Light. With his 2020 single Worth A Little More, he was awarded as the New Talent of the Year by the Country Music Awards of Australia.

The second lot of the day was taken by Callie Twisselman. I reviewed the 2021 debut EP by the California singer-songwriter, Closure. The EP also contains her most successful solo track so far, Cowboy. She also contributed to the soundtrack of My Little Pony: A New Generation.

Liam St. John was next on the Freideck in Cologne. The US-American artist is originally from Spokane in Washington State. He is releasing music since 2020, when he competed in The Voice as well. His new album Man Of The North will be released on 5th September 2025.

As the final artist of the day, Texas country lady Erin Kinsey stepped on stage. She already moved to Nashville at the age of 11. Her debut single Just Drive (2021) comes with 45 million Spotify streams. She has released two EPs and albums each so far.

Sound of Nashville Open Air 2025, Day 2 – The Shows

The Australian songwriters’ round with Sinead Burgess and Blake O’Connor. They shared a lot of stories behind their songs, including the opening Momma Raised A Ramblin’ Man and O’Connor’s so-far unreleased Deep Cut. Sinead Burgess proceeded with Praising God, Raising Hell. Apart from presenting songs individually, the two artists supported each other and also closed their set – not that songwriters’ round-alike – with a medley of songs. Burgess named Cologne the most attentive audience we ever had. The 45 minute opener was exactly in line with the opener.

Callie Twisselham was next after a rather brief intermission, at 18:00. She started with songs like her 2021 single Cowboy or the Carly Pearce song Hide The Wine. Her 45 minute set was a nice mixture of originals, unreleased tracks or covers like Dance With Somebody. She presented the song with a nice presence and energy, so that Cologne had another really nice set on this Saturday afternoon.

Liam St. John with an impressing Set

In contrast to the Friday’s shows, the Sound of Nashville Open Air managed to keep its announced schedule much better on that Saturday. Liam St. John‘s set lasted exactly one hour, from 19:15 to 20:15. Not only as he brought a steel guitar and a banjo on stage, he presented a wide range of country and related genre songs. He felt very relatable and caught the audience again and again His originals like Trouble or the sog Forefathers worked well. He also surprised with two very individual, but very striking covers, namely Britney Spears’ Toxic and Amy Whinehouse* Back To Black. Again and again, he had catching elements in his set, which was the best so far of the festival. A really persuading performance, which makes you look forward when he is coming back to Europe one day.

Erin Kinsey closed the second day of the Sound of Nashville Open Air. The Cologne audience sang along with her to songs like Strangers and Matchmaker. She also presented her new single Blue Jean Baby early in her set. Kinsey had a very energetic set, which had another highlight in I ain’t crazy, which she sang along with the audience. With a medley including country classics like I like it, I love it (orig. by Tim McGraw), the people at the Freideck all sang along and danced with her. There were also more quiet moments like Best of my 20’s, which she did as an acoustic. Thus, quite many fans were likely a bit sad when the time ran closer towards the curfew at 22:00 and the second day of the festival was in the books.
