Mercato Mayfair (London, Pictured Story)

In 1974, the former church St Mark’s on North Audley Street in London has been deconsecrated. Nowadays, the centrally located place becomes one of the most food spots of the British capital on social media. I take you there in my Pictured Story, based on an April 2025 visit.

Mercato Mayfair – Location & Transport

Mercato Mayfair is located two blocks of Oxford Street. It located quite in the middle between Central Line Underground Stations Marble Arch and Bond Street. Oxford Street and Marble Arch offers quite a wide range of bus connections as well.

The operating times of the different shops and restaurants may differ individually. Overall, times are 10:00 to 23:00 daily. Sunday closing is at 22:30, while on Fridays and Saturdays, Mercato Mayfair closes at midnight. Some restaurants offer table reservation, which is highly recommended. We visited the place around 11:00 – and when we left it, it was absolutely packed.  From 10:00 to noon, there is coffee and breakfast service only. Of course, there is no admission.

Views of Mercato Mayfair

When you enter Mercato Mayfair from North Audley Street, you enter straight into the main hall. In the hall before, there is a bakery and a flower store. Furthermore, it features the staircase to the other levels.

The main hall is absolutely impressing. The former church does not feature a cross or a full altar, but the general architectural structure feels untouched and well maintained. Most of the restaurants there are at the sides of the main hall, which leads to a very special atmosphere with the traditional windows. The central area is general seating like at a food court. The former altar features two bars, one rather for shots and spirits and a beer bar. The main hall also allows access to the other levels by an elevator, which did not operate during our visit, though.
The Crypt
A section of Mercato Mayfair, which I did not find on social media posts that often is The Crypt. This is really a shame, as the basement section of the food hall comes with a very special atmosphere. There are several additional cafes and restaurants, like a sushi and a wine bar. The basement also features the bathrooms of the former church.
Gallery and Roof Top
The upper floor features the gallery. This section features some restaurants with small, dedicated spaces as well as a Mexican restaurant with a cocktail section. The key reason, why this section is quite well-known is, of course, the amazing view about the place and the food courts.
From the gallery, there is a small stair case to the small, but really nice rooftop garden. I am sure that this place is amazing on a sunny day – even though it obviously does not come with a really good view.
