Walking Through Central Malmö (Pictured Story)

Many of my trips to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) end up in an Öresundstag trip to Sweden and a night in Malmö. I simply like the Southwest Swedish city. On a recent sunny day, I felt to take you on a walk through the city and show you some beautiful spots. Here is my Pictured Story.

Malmö – Location & Traffic

Malmö is a 300,000 inhabitant city in Skane in Sweden. With the opening of the Öresund Bridge in 2000, there is also a vibrant exchange with the Danish capital Copenhagen. The city is very well developed in regards of touristic infrastructure and also has some very decent attractions. There are direct train connections to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg. The posting is mainly compiled of a city walk I had in May 2023.

Views of Central Malmö

The roots of Malmö date back to the 12th century. There are no major buildings from very ancient times, but the architecture has a nice mixture and partially reminds me of the Hanse and trade tradition. The first picture, for example, is the home of a bank, located quite close to the main station. Espeically in this area, the mixture of major city life and the relaxing atmosphere around the canals of the city is really beautiful. I also love to explore all the sculptures and monuments in the city, like The Knotted Gun / Non Violence Memorial in the same area of Malmö, which you see in some of the first pictures.

In the picture below, you see the picturesque building of Malmö Centralstation, Malmö’s Central Station. From there, I headed into the old town district with the King Karl Gustav Statue, the historic townhall and other historic building. I also visited St Petri Church, which I will feature in a separate posting. In that district, I also loved to explore all the historic-style signs of the shops and services in city center. At the same square, there is also the historic pharmacy Apoteket Lejonet.

Main Station

Back at the main station, I took a brief walk into the rail travel hub. The shopping area reminds of a market hall and has a really beautiful architecture. However, the train station also has very modern parts like the glass cube at its Northern end.
