I typically enjoy changing hotels during my trip. For my four night stay in Pittsburgh watching three Penguins matches in February 2024, though, I was able to go for one place over the whole time. The Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree felt a perfect fit for my stay: the price was right, the location is not too far away from Pittsburgh Airport (PIT) and PPG Paints Arena and it is close to the highway. This was important as I had planned a trip to Wheeling and Parkersburg in West Virginia as well. Here is my review of the Hilton Group Hotel.

Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree – Location & Traffic

The hotel is located more or less next to the I-376 Interstate and quite close to the next highway exit. It is more or less opposite from the DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh – Green Tree. However, while that one is more on a hill, the Hampton is located significantly deeper. The noise from the road can be bothering, but was rather limited during my stay. The access to the hotel is a bit of difficult, as the access road could need some maintenance. Especially at night or during rain, the deep potholes are not always easy to spot. The free self-parking lot is sufficiently large and convenient.

There is no public transport connection and no services like grocery stores or restaurants in walking distance. You thus should have a car if you opt for the hotel. The borough Green Tree itself has quite some services. The location is rather convenient as – without congestion – you will make it to Pittsburgh Downtown in 10 to 15 minutes. Driving time to the airport is about 20 minutes.

Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree – Room

I had a four night stay in late February 2025, Wednesday to Sunday. I had changed my reservation a week before the stay due to the even better King Room rate of 447.36 USD total (non refundable). As for all Hampton hotels, breakfast is included. The room was actually quite nice and had a good size. The work desk was in that cupboard design, which I personally like. Due to the proximity to the bed, though, you could not make that much use of the flexible movable table. Nonetheless, the room offered more than sufficient space. It also featured a fridge and a microwave oven, which is always very convenient.

The bathroom came with a typical Hampton design, featuring a North American style bathtub and a fixed shower. It was maybe a bit on the smaller side, but definitely not inconvenient at all. Like in most Hilton Hotels nowadays, the amenities were provided in dispensers. The maintenance and cleaning of the room was absolutely fine. The housekeeping, which I had once during my stay, was good as well.

Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree – Breakfast

Complimentary breakfast is provided in the lobby area. During my stay, I always found a table – but I could imagine that during peak visiting times, the capacity might be challenging. Another factor, which made the buffet a bit stressful was the setup of it in a small separate room. Bread and waffles, i.e. the items you wait to be baked / toasted were in one corner, which always lead to a bit of stress. The selection of items was nice. However, I felt that the breakfast staff was too challenged with the work there, even in less busy times.

Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree – Service

The reception staff at the hotel was really lovely. Check-in and check-out went smoothly. The hotel is driving a small gym, which is fit for purpose. Furthermore, there is a typical North American size outdoor pool, which was obviously not operating during my stay in winter. The WiFi connection in the hotel worked very nice.

Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree – My View

The Hampton Inn Pittsburgh / Greentree is a nice option when you stay in Greater Pittsburgh, but don’t want to pay the downtown hotel prices. The location is rather convenient with comparably short connections to the city center, but also Pittsburgh Airport (PIT). The two downsides of the hotel are the issues at breakfast and the potholes in the access road.
