Flyctory.com Pros

  • Surprise release with excellent songwriting
  • U2 heading back to their traditional sound
  • Extensive, very entertaining digital magazine available for free

U2 is full of surprises in 2026. While they already released the EP Days of Ash on Ash Wednesday, they added another previously un-announced EP on Good Friday, 3rd April 2026. Days of Ash was rather dealing with chaotic times currently, while Easter Lily is looking on emotional aspects of private life – from loss to friendship. Here is my review.

U2 – About The Artists

U2 is an Irish rock band founded in Dublin in 1976. The band’s initial names were Feedback and The Hype, before singer Bono and his band named U2 in March 1978. All current U2 members are founding ones, namely The Edge (guitar, keyboard), Adam Clayton (bass) and drummer Larry Jullen Jr.. They look back to fifteen album releases and 22 Grammy Awards won. On top of that, Easter Lily is their twelfth EP release, including some live EPs.

U2 – Easter Lily – Track by Track

The six track EP lasts 32 minutes. Together with the EP, there is a new edition of the e-zine Propaganda.

1. Song For Hal

The Easter 2026 surprise EP starts with a song entirely sung by The Edge. The Song For Hal is dedicated to a long-term friend of the band, producer Hal Willner. A special emphasize is on the lyrics Did you know he is close to God who makes his old friends laugh?. A powerful song, just in line what you would expect, when U2 is dedicating a song to you.

2. In A Life

There have been quite some critics about U2 and their music in recent history. The more, In A Life is a treat for long-term friends of the band. Even The Edge states in the digital magazine that it is my favorite U2 song in years. The song deals with friendship. A core track of the EP, indeed.

And when we made our bed out of war
Deafen our children with its roar
Repeat rewind replay once more
Never unsee the sights they saw

3. Scars

Scars is about accepting yourself. The chorus state Let them show, show, show, it’s your scars that give you beauty. And it is the straight lyrics with a nice balance of a straight and clear message and a certain ease, which is defining this track. Later, the song encourages you – Don’t cover your scars… they’re your scars. Despite the emotional component, the sound of the track is rougher, which even sharpens the typical U2 sound character.

4. Resurrection Song

What would be a better season to release a Resurrection Song? The digital magazine states that the roots of the song have already been there about a decade ago. The song comes with the hymnic style, with which U2 defined rock music in the 1990’s and 2000’s. The song is also dealing with being too cynical. Nice one

If love is in the air
Let’s take a breath
If I sound ridiculous
I’m not done yet

5. Easter Parade

The seasonal references continue with Easter Parade. The band names it a song of devotion. The song is about being just a small part of the whole world, with a limited influence. Something in me died, but I was no longer afraid, the band states, closing the song with a Kyrie eleison – and thus being quite explicitly religious in this six minute track as well.

6. COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?)

The longest song of the EP is closing Easter Lily. COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?) is an almost seven minute one and slowly introduces itself with a gentle intro. The song has a very intimate setting, just using very limited instruments in major parts, the lyrics are close to spoken word. Changes, these changes, I am not afraid. An impressing way of closing the EP.

U2 – Easter Lily – My View

Easter Lily is likely the best musical easter egg of the year 2026. U2 are not only delivering six extensive, intense and great songs, they also head back to traditional paths. Their fans will love the direction in which the release is heading. Together with the Propaganda digital magazine, it is an absolute treat.

Favorite Song: Scars
