With Dear Robin, I am having a look at a German rock band in this review. On 30th August 2024, they release their sophomore album Timebound. I had the opportunity of having a listen beforehand and share my thoughts about it.

Dear Robin – About The Artists

Dear Robin is a band from Rostock in Northern Germany. They released their debut album Revelation in 2022. The band compares themselves with a melange of Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple. Their music is influenced by blues and Americana elements. Pia Rademann is the singer of the band. The other band members of the quintet are Florian Fisher (keys), Keylipp Dallmann (drums), Paul Häcker (guitars) and Mathis Marks (bass).

Dear Robin – Timebound – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 46 minutes.

1. Good Times

Timebound kicks off with Good Times. The song is a straight blues rocker with a rather laid back style. Pia Rademann’s voice is catching and enjoyable. However, the guitar and bass lines a rocking and catching sound as well. Thie first one is promising.

2. Timebound

The title track is a bit calmer as the opener. However, the song is based on the same ingredients: rock with blues influence. This leads to nice riffs as well as a very groovy touch. I prefer Good Times over Timebound. However, the second song comes with a nicely flowing melodic chorus.

3. Flower

The album features two songs which almost make it to 5:30 minutes. One of them is Flower. The track is somewhere between a soft rocker and a powerful ballad. The decent support from the instruments gives a stronger focus on the singer’s vocals. Pia is taking profit from this opportunity and presents her voice in a beautiful manner.

4. Breakout

After this small “relaxing” intermission and more gentle sounds, the Dear Robin guitars are roaring stronger again. However, the chorus is a rather nicely and gently flowing melody with Americana influences, while the string section of the band is rather going for full force in the stanzas. This leads to an interesting good listen. Another nice element is the organ solo in the bridge.

5. Leave Your Heart With Me

Leave Your Heart With Me is the fifth song of the album. The album and the strumming acoustic guitars at the beginning of the song already suggest: this is a ballad. One of the male bandmates is taking over the leading vocal duties in this song, which later has some duet attitude. Nice one.

6. Show Me Love

Once Show Me Love is reaching his energetic parts, it is spreading a strong rock attitude with stomping drums and hard riffs. However, the stanzas are rather calm. An interesting contrast – but I definitely prefer the harder sections of this song.

7. Live/Die

It is up to the two single releases of the album so far to pop up on Timebound now. The song is a rock song, which this time leans towards country music vibes more strongly. The uptempo style driven by the drums works out really nicely. I absolutely enjoy this track.

8. Give In

The contrast between the two single releases couldn’t be bigger. After the energetic rocker, Dear Robin are now showing a nicely flowing pop-rock track, which has a nuance of folk-pop. Style changes like this illustrate the versatility of the band, especially on the vocal side. Rademann works out as a rock chick as well as a melodic narrative performer. You can pick by yourself which one you prefer more.

9. Slow Down

The title already suggests that this one might not be an uptempo song. Indeed, the song comes with blues vibes and even reminds of soul-pop. The guitar and bass lines are beautiful and add just the right spirit, especially when Slow Down becomes a bit more angry. Nice listen.

10. Kingdom Of Hope

The epic 5:27 minute song Kingdom Of Hope is closing the Timebound album. The chucker-out starts slowly, but then moves along a nice dramatic plot between calm an rocking parts. Kingdom Of Hope tells its story with vocal as well as with instrumental elements – thus even the band-only parts dont’t get boring at all.

Dear Robin – Timebound – My View

Dear Robin recorded a really nice and versatile album. I love the slower and more personal parts as well as rocking with the Northern Germans. Thus, I feel that Timebound is a perfect showcase for an upcoming band. Not all songs are in the top range, but the album is a really nice listen.

Favorite Song: Breakout
