I am looking back to a really interesting week of music. For me personally, I have been so happy to be back in the concert photo pit on Sunday, watching Johnossi in Cologne. The list of songs in my Songs of the Week this time is not as long as it used to be, though. There is a public holiday in some parts of Germany, so that companies feel to be a bit of shy in releasing music this week. Hope you nonetheless enjoy these twelve songs..
Gabrielle Aplin – Call Me
The leading song this week is Call Me by the English singer-songwriter. The 1992-born artist was especially successful with her 2013 album English Rain and her debut single the cover of The Power of Love. This one is not a Blondie cover, but a beautiful, emotional pop listen.
Young The Giant – Wake Up
Alternative pop-rock from the USA: Young The Giant release a new track with a nice, dark sound. Cool listen.
Simple Minds – Vision Thing
A big name in music business. The legendary Glasgow combo Simple Minds is releasing a new one. Vision Thing might not be as good as their legendary ones, but Vision Thing has a nice touch.
Kevin Jenewein ft. SOS Project – Running Away
Kewin Jenewein became famous as contestant of the German show Deutschland sucht den Superstar, the equivalent to American Idol. For his new new single, he is working with SOS Project, a team of producers, who are based North of Frankfurt.
Claudia Balla – In My Head
Claudia Balla is a Swiss singer-songwriter. I felt that her pop track In My Head has a nice ease, I definitely enjoy listening to her new single.
Lucas Cordalis feat. Daniela Katzenberger – Wir haben uns sowas von verdient
Okay, the song is a bit of kitsch, but I just had to smile while listening to this schlager track by singer Lucas Cordalis and his wife Daniela Katzenberger. The couple became famous by trash TV formats. Nicely produced track.
Philipp Dittberner – Irgendwas dazwischen
The Berlin singer-songwriter had two quite successful albums in the mid-2010’s. Especially his Wolke 4 was a great success in Germany and Austria. However, none of his tracks so far could somehow connect to it. I definitely like Irgendwas Dazwischen (“Something in between”).
Kriss Kross Amsterdam, Kati K. & Gregor Hägele – Rückwärtsgang
The title of this song translates to “Reverse Gear”. Any of the three artists of this collaboration add some nice visible value to this track. Good listen.
Maneskin – If I Can Dream
At the moment, the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest winners from Italy rather concentrate on their single Supermodel. However, they also contributed to the new Elvis movie – and this track has been released this week. Really good one
Mono Inc. – The Raven’s Back
I slightly stark increasing the rock power factor in this weekly selection. Mono Inc. are a goth rock band from Germany. This song barely missed the to of the list (I only select the leading track and then arrange the order of songs line line with that selection).
Tigersclaw – Titan’s Dawn
The hardest tunes of the week are likely delivered by Tigersclaw. The power metal band from Southern Germany do a really good one this week. TItan’s Dawn will also be the title track of their following album. Look forward to hear more from singer Elena Minina and her band colleagues.
Sam Fischer – All My Loving
This week, the list of songs closes with an Australian contributor. This City has been the big success for Sam Fischer so far. All My Loving is a similarly amazing listen.
