Before my flight back with Saudia Arabian Airlines from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) in late February 2024, I expected to have access to the Plaza Premium Lounge. However, in contrast to my expectations, I was invited to the Malaysia Airlines International Golden Lounge, which is located at the Satellite of Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport. I only visited the Business Class lounge. Here is my lounge review.
Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge Kuala Lumpur Satellite (Business Class) – Location & Access
The Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge is located at the satellite of Kuala Lumpur Airport (KUL), which is a short tram ride away from the terminal. It is located in one of the wings of the building, the signs are straightforward and guide you to the lounge.
In fact, there a two lounge, a Business Class Lounge and a First Class Lounge. For the latter, you need to be a oneworld Emerald member on an international flight. You may also visit it as a First Class flyer on the associated airlines. My Saudia flight “just” allowed me to visit the Business Class wing of the lounge, which also serves Business Class ticket holders of certain oneworld partner airlines. There are also some other SkyTeam airlines who use this lounge, e.g. Garuda and China Airlines. Lounges passes are not accepted. The lounge is open daily, 24 hours.
Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge Kuala Lumpur Satellite (Business Class) – Atmosphere
I so far just had one business class experience from Kuala Lumpur (KUL), flying Malaysia Airlines B737 Business Class from there. The domestic lounge on that trip was nice, but not breathtaking. Thus, when I entered the International Golden Lounge, I felt overwhelmed by the size and the luxurious design of the lounge. The first room is a bar (which also serves alcoholic beverages) with a decent area to hang out. However, it felt tiny compared to the huge main room of the lounge.
The main room of the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge is huge and offer a lot of space. As you can see in the pictures below, there are various different kinds of seating, from bistro-alike seats close to a noodle station to relaxing seats. The aisles are very wide, which lead to a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, even though the lounge more and more filled up with people. There are also relax seats if you want to have a short nap and a family area, where you can play with your children. Power sockets are located all over the lounge and have the international layout which (more or less) fits all kinds of power plugs. Another lovely feature are the large windows, which allow a great view of the tarmac and the runway.
Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge Kuala Lumpur Satellite (Business Class) – Food & Drink
The lounge offers buffets with a wide range of food. There are healthy options like salad, Western and local Malay dishes and other options. You could also have a made-to-order sandwich during my visit in the lounge. The food had a nice quality and was really tasty.
Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge Kuala Lumpur Satellite (Business Class) – Services
As Malaysia is an Islamic country, the lounge features prayer rooms. There are toilets and showers as well. The toilets are fully equipped toilet cabins with a sink. WiFi in the lounge was for free and worked very well.
Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge Kuala Lumpur Satellite (Business Class) – My View
The Malaysia Airlines International Golden Lounge at the Kuala Lumpur T1 Satellite was a real treat. I did not expect such a relaxed atmosphere and good service. It has been definitely one of my most favorite lounge experiences and thus easily makes it to a Top Pick! rating.
