2024 – My Year in Travel

Like I did in 2023, I will kick off my looking back to the year 2024 with some travel facts and statistics. Traveling is still the key motivation why I run Flyctory.com, so I feel some travel facts and statistics are absolutely worth sharing and discussing, before I inrtoduce you to my favorite music and experiences during 2024 in other year-end reviews.

 

Countries I Traveled To

There is just two countries I in fact immigrated into which I haven’t visited before in my life: Qatar and Indonesia. My trip there in October 2024 was also the first time I set foot on the Southern hemisphere. Here are some statistics about my travel in general from a geographical perspective.

 

New Countries 2024

I count every new country in here. Qatar was the first time I immigrated to the country and not just transferred. Thus, I mention it below. In two new countries, I just had a transfer at the airport. My visit to Indonesia was the first time stepping foot on the Southern Hemisphere:

Most Frequently Flown Airports in 2024:

Here are my most frequently used airports in 2024. Each take-off and landing counts separately.

By the way, the most-frequently flown non-European airports are Abu Dhabi (AUH), Doha (DOH), Tunis (TUN) and Jeddah (JED), with 4 connections each.

I typically do not distinguish between different sub-series of the same plane type in my statistics, e.g. between a A340-400 and an A340-600. I split out the neo and MAX versions, though.

Rail Travel

Rail travel is an important part of my journeys. I absolutely enjoy being able to work or relax while in transit.

I had trips with the following rail companies.

The difference between rail companies and light rails or funiculars is sometimes hard to take. I tried to focus on longer distance rail situations.

Here are the longest rail trips I took. The times are based on the scheduled travel time, not on the one in fact traveled.

Hotels 2024

Overall, I spent 132 nights in hotels during 2024. Here are some more insights.

 

Most Popular Hotels 2024

I had five nights each in three different hotels in 2024. While the other two ones have been five nights in one stay, I had multiple stays at the lovely Hilton Munch Airport.

It is still Home Sweet Home as the dominating country in which I stayed in during 2024. France pushed forward due to the Olympic Games and some job-related trips. Overall, I stayed in 21 different countries overnight during 2024.

Business-related trips gave a strong focus on Paris and Dublin, which Munich and Dubai have been rather “normal trips” during my 2024 travel campaign.

I’m a Hilton b*tch – and things won’t change in that regard, I believe. Accor is one of my key other overnight providers. I more and more enjoyed staying with Deutsche Hospitality this year as well.
