Brett Young (28th October 2025, Cologne)

Spring and fall typically bring quite a bunch of country musicians over to Europe. Thus, at the end of October 2025, I had three country music concerts within one after. After the shows of 49 Winchester in Cologne and Old Dominion in Hamburg, I had another Sound of Nashville show on 28th October 2025 in Cologne. This time, Brett Young had a stop of his Back to Basics World Tour 2025, supported by Sam Fischer.

This posting comes with 416 major size pictures as part of the concert gallery.

Theater am Tanzbrunnen – About The Venue

I took you to the Theater am Tanzbrunnen already when I visited all Rock of Ages shows there in March 2024. The venue belonging to the Cologne Trade Fair comes with a seated capacity of 1,100. It is located right at the River Rhein and also has an open air space in summer. In 2024, I saw the show by Giovanni Zarrella there. There are bus connections (Rheinpark stop), but the most convenient option is using national, regional and local rail as well as local transport from Cologne Trade Fair / Deutz. Walking distance to the venue is some ten minutes.

Brett Young – About The Artists

The show was the third time I featured Brett Young live on stage. Before that, I saw him in a show in November 2022 in Cologne as well as closing artist of the C2C 2020 in Berlin. The 44 year old country pop artist from Anaheim released five albums so far. I reviewed his 2018 one, Ticket to L.A., the 2021 Weekends Look a Little Different These Days, as well as his latest, 2.0 (2025).

The support act on this show was Sam Fischer. The Australian pop-rock singer was born on 5th July 1991 in Sydney. So far, he released three EPs and one album. His biggest song is likely This City, which he released in 2018, but then became successful in 2019. This City received three platinum records in Australia and two each in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Brett Young – The Show

As announced, Sam Fischer started his set at 19:00. During the set, he set up two rules for the 35 minute performance. First, no one in here is too cool to sing and, second, if you can’t sing, still do it. Sam Fischer is indeed able to sing – and his first songs, I Love You, Please Don’t Hate Me and Alright, already fascinated the Cologne crowd. Sam Fischer had a very heartwarming, motivated set. He connected very well to the audience. It was really fun watching him and his guitarist on stage. His set closed with the best song ever written, his version of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me). The last song of the evening in Cologne was his big hit, This City.

Great Performance by Brett Young

Playing roughly 100 minutes, Brett Young also started his set on time, at 20:00. With Sleep Without You and Ticket to L.A., he kicked off with two of his more famous songs. Before You Didn’t, he instructed the audience I ask you to scream to a heartbreaking song, maybe cry, next to a stranger. Brett Young and his full band, even featuring a cellist, showed a powerful performance. Before the song thereafter, Lady, Young told in detail how he wrote a song for his wife and his daughter in one – just to mention thereafter that Full House was the song about his second child. Some songs later, he complained after the Luke Combs cover Beautiful Crazy that Cologne sang along louder to that than to his originals.

A highlight of the concert was a band feature, in which the members of the band presented own songs in a medley. It even included a string duet. This special featured ended with Fischer being back on stage, performing his This City again. However, this time he did so with the full Brett Young band. When the main artist came back on stage, Fischer stayed to perform Mercy in an intimate duet. Say Less and Here Tonight completed the ordinary set, before In Case You Didn’t Know finished the day in Cologne as the encore.

Brett Young – My View

Before the show, I struggled with the idea that an Australian pop-rocker opens for a country act. However, I was so wrong. Sam Fischer was great and did a very nice, heartwarming and energizing performance. He definitely won a lot of fans at the Theater am Tanzbrunnen, which felt quite full and well-sold. And Brett Young? I felt it was the best performance I saw from him so far. His idea to play a show without pyro, without screens and without show elements and therefor concentrating on the music worked out very well. Thus, his concert did not only come with his characteristic, emotional country pop style. He felt very close to the Cologne crowd, energetic. Young and his band acted playfully. I really liked his set in Cologne.
