Flyctory.com Pros

  • Mostly good, catching schlager songs
  • Some very individual style tracks

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Some very stereotypical parts

The final straight of the promotion campaign for Anna-Carina Woitschack’s 2024 album kicked off with a very explicit event. You find the German schlager artist as the cover celebrity in the September edition of the German Playboy magazine. About a week later, at 16th August 2024, you could also starting enjoying the artist in the typical perspective – with your ears rather than your eyes. Here is my review of Meine Zeit (“My time”).

Anna-Carina Woitschack – About The Artist

Anna-Carina Woitschack, was born on 28th October 1992 in Helmstedt in East Lower Saxony, Germany. She became famous by attending the 2011 season of the German version of American IdolDeutschland sucht den Superstar. Despite she had to bow out as eighth place at that year, she is one of the most successful artists of that series. She so far released seven studio albums. The last two ones made it into Top 6 of the German album charts. Her most recent one has been the 2022 Lichtblicke.

Anna-Carina Woitschack – Meine Zeit – Track by Track

The twelve song album lasts 37 minutes.

1. Meine Zeit

The album opens with the title track. The song is a typical schlager track. Intense disco fox beats, the lyrics are a bit of kitschy. Woitschack’s voice is really nice. I am sure fans will like this one

2. Smalltalk

The single release Smalltalk has a bit more of a special touch. Summer vibes, brass sounds and a rather nice groove define this song. The genre is typically thought to be rather prudish – but this song has a rather explicit touch in the lyrics, like in

Lass uns den Smalltalk überspringen
Unsre Welt ins Wanken bringen
Stell dir vor wie wird es sein
Du und Ich so ganz allein

(“Let’s skip the small talk
Let’s make our world shake
Imagine how i will be
You and me so very alone”)

3. Die Welt umarmen

The other previous single release Die Welt umarmen (“Embrace the world”) illustrates that the artist is able to deal with surprising elements as well. The third song does have a clear schlager core, but there are also synth-pop and very groovy elements in this track. I like it.

4. Glücksmomente

Regarding the title, the fourth song deals with “Lucky Moments”. That’s the kind of song which has a certain level of popularity in the German schlager scene on the one hand. On the other hand, it feels a bit arbitrary. The two songs before just felt more characteristic and unique.

5. Mein Herz ist doch kein Hotel

Mein Herz ist doch kein Hotel
Und ich bin auch nicht All Inclusive
Mein Herz weißt genau was es will
Mit jeden Gefühl sagt es dir: „Nein, du nicht“

(“My heart is no hotel
And I am not all inclusive
My heart exactly knows what it wants
With every feeling it tells you, ‘No, not you'”)

A typical way of writing schlager songs is also using metaphors from situations which do not fit to the topic situation at all. I for example remember a Maite Kelly song, where she compares a relationship and love with a soccer match. Sometimes, these comparisons work out somehow and give a nice and easy touch. Sometimes (like in my example) it is a complete fail. I feel that Anna-Carina Woitschack did quite nice in this song.

6. Wie ich bin

The sixth song is a slow song, which is reflecting about the artist herself. She states Ich bin wie ich bin, mit allen Fehlern die ich hab – “I am who I am – with all my mistakes”. This leads to a personal and emotional touch and definitely adds a nice touch to the album.

7. Lichterloh

Unser Feuer brennt noch lichterloh – “Our fire is still burning blazingly bright” – is the next key statement of the album. The storytelling is not free of being quite corny, but somehow nice. The melody sounds like we have had this tunes already numerous times. Thus, the song is rather a weaker spot in my point of view.

8. Heute leben wir die Nacht

The eighth song’s title translates to “Today, we live the night”. You imagine a night out, some drinks, some dancing, maybe a hot date at the end. Thus, the first seconds of the song feel a bit confusing, as the song is opening with piano tunes, which pop up within the song as well. The song then tuns into the typical German dance pop style – that’s schlager. After the weaker Lichterloh, I feel that this one is a treat to the schlager listener.

9. Wir leben, wir lieben

The album continues with this Wir leben, wir lieben, which translates to “We live, we love”. The song comes with Caribbean vibes and thus spreads summer vibes. A good and fun song with a nice touch.

(“We live, we love
And we light in all our colors this night
We live, we love
Wir dance like in a frenzy through the lights of the city
Come on, breath the moment
The world turns faster just for us
We live, we love
And tomorrow is endlessly far away
This is our time”)

10. Warum

Warum simply means “Why”. The tenth song of Meine Zeit serves the (stereo)typical schlager. These kind of songs making intense use of dancing rhythm and synth-pop elements feel a bit of arbitrary, but I am sure that Woitschack’s fans will enjoy and celebrate this song.

11. Liebe ist chaotisch

The second last song states “Love is a chaotic like a hurricane in the night” in the chorus. The song has its own touch – but like the predecessor, the song is also a rather typical schlager listen. Still, I feel that this song works out.

12. Prosecco zum Frühstück (feat. Mountain Crew)

For the last song of the album, Anna-Carina Woitschack does not only take us to a “Prosecco for breakfast”, but also invites the Austrian band Mountain Crew for the recording. The band, which is doing a mixture of traditional folk music and rock, definitely adds their very own style to the song. The song also has a touch of party schlager. Thus, the song is a nice add-on as a chucker-out.

Anna-Carina Woitschack – Meine Zeit – My View

I am not the typical schlager listener. Thus, I am also more sensitive against repeating song elements than the typical consumer of the album. From that perspective, I feel that Meine Zeit is a good album.

Favorite Song: Heute leben wir die Nacht
