For a weekend trip to Mallorca in September 2025, I needed a one night stay in proximity to the airport. Obviously the area there is rather known for mass tourism. I finally opted for the Hotel Alua Leo, which is part of the Hyatt franchise. Here is my review.

 

Alua Leo – Location & Access

The hotel is located in Can Pastilla at the Platja de Palma, right South of Palma Airport (PMI). The driving distance from the hotel to the airport is less than four kilometers and in the range of five minutes. The hotel is two block away from the beach. En route, you find numerous restaurants and stores in between of multiple other hotels. The only key touristic attraction in the area is the Palma Aquarium, which is in walking distance.

You can go to the hotel by car. It runs a private (open) parking lot, which is charged with 6 Euro per night. In case you are a cyclist, there is also a bicycle room. Alternatively, there is also a public bus from the airport (A20, roughly every 30 minutes). The hotel is just a short drive away from the Ma-19 highway, so that you can reach other spots on the island easily.

 

Alua Leo – The Room

I had one night at the Alua Leo, from Saturday to Sunday in late September 2025. I had a flexible rate, including half board, which was 213 EUR excluding half board. The room was well-maintained, welcoming and had a reasonable size. Regarding the comfort, I would say the room was almost stereotypical. The work desk just had a box to sit on, there is a fridge, but no other appliances. The safe demands a daily charge of 3 Euro. You can also get certain other helpful items like a water kettle – these do require a cash deposit, though. I liked that the room was air conditioned. I am not sure whether the temperature control really worked well, but it cooled down the room. In nowadays dimensions, the TV set in the room (included) was comparably small.

The open bathroom was compact, but in line with the expectations. The shower was rather large, though, while the toilet was located behind a sliding door. Basic amenities were provided by dispensers. The terrace / balcony was really nice, even though the pool view booked was limited. The terrace of my room was significantly smaller than the one of other rooms. In case you miss beach / pool / sunbed towels: you can rent them for free, but (again) have to do a cash deposit. Replacing them does lead to a charge, though.

 

Alua Leo – Breakfast & Food

Overall, I would say that the buffet restaurant ist one of the core services of the hotel. The staff is friendly and overall attentive. The prices for drinks during buffet times are reasonable. You can choose from a wide range of options, which are also presented in a really nice way. In some cases, I struggled with the positioning of the items. The Alua Leo even had two live cooking stations, one for meat and one for fish dishes. The dinner I had was nice, without having too many highlights. You did find items you enjoy, though – especially during a short stay like mine.

Breakfast is served from 8:00. During my visit, the buffet opened some five minutes too late and there were already major lines. Thus, the hotel might not be a good option for a stay before a morning flight. The breakfast was quite in line with the expectation after the dinner buffet. There is a nice variety of items. I liked the salads and fresh fruits. There is even live cooking. The omelets, however, come from an industrial mass product and are not that tasty. Overall, there is a great variety, the quality is rather in the lower range, though.

 

Alua Leo – Services

The check-in and check-out experience was rather lousy. There were simply too few people at the reception to handle the people. WiFi is provided. While it worked quite well in the morning, it broke down multiple times during the afternoon and evening, so that I finally used my mobile network. The hotel does drive a gym, but you have to pay – you guess it – a deposit. If you don’t want to go to the beach, you can enjoy the nicely made (and very popular) pool area. The hotel bar offers some evening entertainment.

 

Alua Leo – My View

The Alua Leo is a typical holiday hotel. Most of the hotel guests likely spent significantly less than 213 Euro per night – but I have to measure it based on the price. It is simply too high (which also means: Mallorca is getting too expensive). I do not criticize them for all those services for additional charges and deposits – finally, this reflects the guests they typically attract and their behavior. If the Alua Leo would not be a Hyatt location, I might see it less critical. On the positive side, it is well maintained and they overall tray to offer reliable services on the requested quality level.
